Trouble unlocking Dell SCV3000 Storage
Hi everyone,
I’ve got a Dell SCV3000 storage unit that we purchased in a lot, but unfortunately we don’t have the CLI access password.
iDRAC is already configured and working with a new password.
CLI access is still blocked.
I tried the method of placing an
unlock.py
file on a 4GB USB drive formatted as FAT32, with the contentunlock Admin
saved in ANSI. No success.I can access safemode, but I haven’t been able to reset the system from there.
Does anyone know if there is another method to reset the password or unlock CLI access? Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Since you have just received the SCV3000 I would recommend to do the Ownership transfer to put the asset in your name.
You would need to be owner of record for any support.
Ownership Transfer and Dell Product Registration Guides
It describes what to do for third-party, such as eBay, purchases
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000125103/ownership-transfer-and-dell-product-registration-guides
If the ownership didn't go through then you will need to contact Customer Care in your region to see if they need more information. Customer Care: 1-866-795-5597 for US/Canada
This procedure should be performed by a Senior level Support Engineer.
If this does not work, you may need to call to support to open a case up for a factory reset process.
1. Create the unlock.phy file:
Open a simple text editor (like Notepad) on a computer.
Type "unlock Admin" (without quote) on the first line.
Save the file as unlock.phy
2. Format the 4GB USB drive:
Ensure the USB drive is formatted using the FAT32 file system.
3. Copy the file to the USB drive:
Copy the unlock.phy file onto the root directory of the FAT32 formatted USB drive.
4. Insert the USB drive:
Insert the USB drive into a USB port on the lead controller of your SCv3000 storage system.
5. Log in to the system:
Acquire CLI access log in using:
Username: Admin
Password: mmm (you may be able to try with no password also)
If this method fails, try a different USB brand or model. Some users reported success only after multiple attempts or switching USB drives.
I understand you may not be under warranty so you could contact Sales and ask for a Post Standard Support contract to work the issue with Senior level support.

@GabrielDuarte
The filename needs to be unlock.phy rather than unlock.py. Be sure that windows explorer doesnt trick and use *.txt at the end which is hide by default.
I always create 2 sticks and use both the same time because from the outside you cant tell which is the leading CM. The leadership will change with every restart of the system.

Hi, I got another flash drive. I have two 4GB flash drives.
I formatted both in FAT32 and changed the file to unlock.phy Inside is a file called:
unlock Admin
saved in ANSI format. I entered the password, but it didn't work.
It only works in safe mode. Can I reset it somehow through safe mode?
Note: Each flash drive is on a different controller.

Did you retry a few times? It was reported to work after several tries.
SafeMode alone does not allow CLI password reset.
The unlock.phy method must be used to unlock CLI access.
Only Senior or Master Level Dell Support Engineers can perform a full reset if the unlock method fails.
Did you get the Ownership transferred?
As I mentioned, You would need to be owner of record for any support and dealing with passwords we should Verify Authorization. This protects the Asset Owner and Dell.
