SCv3020 ManagedForeign disk clear

Hey guys, I have an SCv3020 storage system that I'm initializing, but the disks I install are being detected as ManagedForeign. I can’t perform a factory reset either via the web interface or the Storage Manager Client. Is there any way to factory reset it through the console?

Hi,

To confirm, can you provide me the disk DPN# that you have installed into the storage.

@tianchou What command should I use? That option doesn't appear.

@DELL-Joey C

I have tried several disk combinations, with model 1XJ203-158 it tells me that they are already managed, with P/N HDEBL40DAB51 (they are not enterprise plus) it tells me Unassigned but the startup process does not recognize them as active. Finally I have tried with other disks P/N 1GR201-157 and it tells me that they are down. In all cases they are new disks

With the Managed Foreign that is just stating that the drives were used on another system before. Now if the data isn't important that is on the drives then you can do the following

Step 1: Identify the Foreign Disk
Log in to the SCv3020 GUI as an administrator.
Navigate to Storage > Disks .
Look for the foreign disk in the list of disks.

Step 2: Clear the Foreign Disk
Select the foreign disk and click on Clear Foreign Configuration .
Confirm that you want to clear the foreign configuration. This will remove any existing configuration on the disk.
Wait for the operation to complete. This may take a few minutes.

Step 3: Verify the Disk Status
After clearing the foreign configuration, verify that the disk status has changed to "Unassigned" or "Available".
You can now use the disk as a new disk or assign it to a storage pool.

Alternatively, you can use the CLI to clear a managed foreign disk. Here is an example:

sccli /disk clearForeignConfig <disk_id>

Replace <disk_id> with the ID of the foreign disk you want to clear.

Let me know how it goes and if this helps.

@DELL-Chris H

I can't perform the deletion via the web because the SAN is in the initial configuration state. I'm having these issues with the recommended commands via the CLI.

sn276629> sccli /disk clearForeignConfig 5
sn276629>
Cannot find command: sccli

disk clearForeignConfig 5
sn276629>
Cannot find command: clearForeignConfig

@DELL-Charles R

The SAN is in the initialization state, the menu to switch to maintenance does not appear. Is there any option via CLI?

Could you clarify where these drives are from, are they new? I ask because if the drives are from a different Compellent system then that can be another issue. Also, would you clarify if the data on the drives is important or not?

Now the system looks like it needs to be reinitialized, so if there is data on the system that needs to be saved then a support call is in your best interest.

@DELL-Chris H

These drives are from another Compellent system of ours that we stopped using due to a broken controller; the drives are practically new. Data loss doesn't matter; just getting the system up and running.

If that is the case then it is due to database error issues, and you will need to wipe the drives before you can add them to the new system.

@yesneiler It would be easier to do a factory reset
