SCv3020 Fan Speed Max after HDD Failure/Replacement
Hi,
We have an SCv3020 device which is now out of warranty (no option was given to extend it further). We recently had a drive failure and replaced this drive. Ever since the failure the fans on the device have been running at a speed I'd liken to a hovercraft. There are now no faults on the device as seen on the Dell Storage Manager Client, however I can't get the fans to settle back to normal.
Many years ago we had this issue and Dell managed to sort things out during a service call. I seem to recall they mentioned a firmware update resolved the issue and that a reboot was required. I can't tell whether the present firmware on the controllers contains the fix or a restart is still required. The firmware version listed on the controllers is 7.5.10.12. Can anyone tell me whether this firmware contains that fix, or is a restart still in order to swap over to the new firmware.
On the subject of controller restart, is it possible to do this and restart one at a time while ESXi hosts are still connected to the compellent device, or does everything need to be taken offline?
Thanks in advance.
Shane

Update: I ran the update checker and it says that the latest storage center software has been installed. Current storage center version: 07.05.10.012.02.

The most probability is bmc split brain. you can log on the command line by serial console or direct ssh to idrac and then connec to device for the command line. Then you can check platform bmc show to understand bmc status.

@shaneb697
the latest version is 7.5.21
The update checker only validates if the installed version matches the one Dell Support have released for YOUR system.
SCOS updates are a manually process so every Mr. Customer needs to open a support ticket to get access to the software.
Only minor fixed and critical updates most likely to SSD FW are released automaticy for all.

Thanks very much to both of you. I believe that our first call out last time was due to split brain (it rung a bell as soon as it was mentioned), but was told by the Dell technician the firmware installed fixed this issue.
Regarding the firmware updates, without a support agreement in place, can I request these? It seems a bit rude not receiving software updates for something you paid a lot of money for and multiple warranty extensions for.
Would I be better of trying to organise an out of warranty repair call to fix both issues, or just investigate and potentially fix the split brain, while ignoring the firmware updates?
Thanks.

Part of a SCOS update is a Pre- and Post check after the update and thats why a support contract is required.
I once managed around 40 compellents and never heard about "bmc splitbrain". Of course we had other issues with 7.5.10.
You can try to reboot iDRAC and each CM sequentielly and see whats happend.

@Origin3k Thanks very much for your reply. As will be obvious, I'm not real familiar with this device and its not really my area of expertise. I have sent Dell an e-mail requesting support.
Looking through the documentation I can't find anything that says the SCv3020 has iDRAC, only the BMC management ports. Is that what you mean? I can connect to both of those via the web interface and they both indicate that the first controller is the boss and they are both balanced. That sounds like perhaps it isn't a split brain situation.
Thanks again for your help. I'll update the group once I hear back from Dell.

The SCv3020,5020,7020 comes with an "iDRAC". Within the Unisphere WebGUI or DSM(Dell Storage Manager) its labed BMC because it was a BMC in previous versions of the Compellent.

@Origin3k Thanks for the info. I've spoken to Dell support today and they've taken a look remotely. They can't see anything wrong from their end and there is no split brain. I will be on-site tomorrow with the device, so will investigate it further.
