SCv3000 and 3020 causes switch reboots
After working with Dell and a Partner Solutions Engineer for several months, we moved forward with purchasing a 3000 and 3020, approved cabling, modules, etc. to move this project forward. While in the process of setting up and deploying these units (going on over two weeks now), anytime a reboot of the unts/ controllers, or complete power off to up, will cause the switching gear to either reboot or hang. This has resulted in several different cases opened with Cisco TAC, purchase of additional cables and modules, units came with the latest firmware and SC software on them, firmware upgrades/ downgrades of switches, Fault Domains, IPs, Subnet all separate, and a number of other things related to defaults and minimal settings, and of course, the use of the Switch Config Guides provided by Dell, one specifically for the Nexus: https://downloads.dell.com/solutions/storage-solution-resources/Cisco-Nexus-5548UP-Dell-SC-Series-switch-configuration-guide-(SCG2007).pdf
Hardware:
Chelsio T540 Quad Port 10Gb iSCSI Adapters
SCv3000
SCv3020
Cisco Nexus 5548UP
Cisco SG550XG
All new cables and modules including DAC, eliminating cabling as an issue.
I did find it interesting in my testing that if I only cable up only two connections from the Top Controllers, the switching gear stays online, not sure what to make of this, but worth noting.
I am presenting this to the community for any thoughts or considerations I need to take in as I wait to hear back from Dell and their partner this week. I am already working on the fact that I might need to procure newer switching gear (at a huge cost) in the event this can't be worked out. Again, Dell and Partner approved the existing switching gear would work and even tested (not sure they themselves tested), but even then, the setup does not seem to be overtly complicated to result with such an issue.
