SCV2040 stuck in initial configuration loop?
I sucessfully (I hope so) reset a decomissioned SCV2040 to factory defaults, set a new password and a know IP address. Starting the Dell Storage Manager, it tells me the SCV needs an initial configuration, which is totally normal for a "new" unit.
After going through the steps of that initial config, I click on "continue" and the whole process jumps back to the beginning and that loop continues eternally.
I suspect the problem is a pretty old SCOS version of 7.1.4 and the oldest DSM I tried is from 2016. I also tried 2022 version with the same effect...
Stupid part is that the software update does not work either, maybe because it's too old or I'm missing some IP parameters. Is there a way to update the system offline? Or does anyone know how to get out of this loop?

Ok... it turned out to be necessary to repeat the whole factory reset process again. Now it's working as intended.

It's actually a SCV2020, not 2040.
And after doing a factory default from the Storage Manager Client, I'm again stuck with the same problem. But this time I can't get it running again.
I'm starting to believe I have the wrong Stor Manager Client version. But which one works??
Any ideas anyone??

Perform a complete factory reset of the SCv2040. This has been reported to resolve the issue for some users. Ensure that you follow the factory reset procedure correctly.

Could you please tell me about the official factory reset procedure? Maybe a link to a document? I already did several factory resets but I may have missed something...
What I did is this:
(for each controller independently, one at the time))
> shellaccess developer
> cs purge all
> disk global clobberall
> -shutdown
Interestingly this doesn't reset the IP addresses. Then I start SC Manager and it first tells me to change the password. Then the initial configuration has to be done. But the procedure doesn't start at the beginning, it starts with the last step, which is odd. So I click the "back" button until I'm on the first page.
Then performing all the necessary steps for the init, click "finish" and the cycle begins, telling me that initial configuration is necessary.
Is there a way to do the initial config by CLI?

OK...
I'm still trying to do the initial configuration. The firmware is now R07.04.21 and all the tricks mentioned before won't work.
I start Storage Manager, it tells me to do the initial config, I do it and it jumps back to the beginning.
Then I tried to update to R07.05.10 but that only works after the initial config...
So what else can I do? Is there a CLI command to tell the SCV2020 it's initialized, so that I can continue?
Do I really have to throw it away??

Hi,
just a thought, but that loop can sometimes be a licensing issue, especially if you bought the unit used. I'd try the factory reset one more time, making absolutely sure you've reset both controllers properly before you power the chassis back on. It's easy to miss a step or only get one of them fully cleared. If that still doesn't break the loop, your best bet is to reach out to your local Dell Support. They might be able to check the license status.
