SCv2020 will not connect to ESXi Host

I'm using a R640 and the SCv2020 over SAS.

I've read http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/how11081/preparing-vmware-esxi-hosts-to-attach-to-scv20x0-scv30x0-sc4020-sc5020-sas-arrays?lang=en

Not sure if its the driver as my DELL 12Gbps SAS HBA external is already running lsi_msgpt3 and have used the DELL customised ESXI 6.5 U1 ISO.

I've got 2 SAS cables connected from the R640 1-0 and 1-1 to the Top Controller Port 1 and the Bottom controller port 1.

SCv2020 is up to date on 7.2 and is showing a message of Local Port was not found.

Driver on ESXi host is lsi-msgpt3 16.00.01.00-1OEM.650.0.0.4598673
Firmware 13.17.03.05

DellEMC-ESXi-6.5U1-7967591-A10 (Dell)

After checking on the VMware compatibility guide all are over the recommended versions.

TIA

I would verify your SAS Front End Ports are configured in a Fault Domain.

Some documentation to look at to check this:
Support for Dell Storage SCv2000
SCv2000 – http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/storage-sc2000/research

Deployment Guide http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/storage-sc2000_deployment-guide_en-us.pdf
Inside the Deployment Guide is:
Connect the Front-End Cabling on page 31
Cabling Direct-Attached Host Servers on page 51
Review SAS Front-End Configuration on page 75
Set Up a localhost or VMware Host on page 78

Thanks, I have already been using those documents. I tried a factory reset and got the following error message, I've also attached a photo of the cabling but it seems to match the video link you sent me.

I'll accept the solution for anyone who can see the most obvious mistake from the photo I posted......

I shouldn't work so late!!!!

The photos are not visible in your post.

Photos are not visible, but if you go into Dell Storage Manager > Hardware Tab > choose either the top or bottom controller > expand IO ports > SAS > find slot 1 port 1 and see if you can right click and "configure" the port.  Some times this step is overlooked.

I just ran into the same exact issue.

Running 7.2.51 update, we had to revert to lsi_msgpt3 version 14.15.01 drivers.

The 16.00.01 is having issues with 7.1.12 and above.

16.00 does work on 7.1.4 version.

We have open cases with Dell and their compatability guides are out of date and not updated.

Drivers can be found via VMware compatibility drivers by version.

You can search for Dell and match all of your requirements.

It is there.

I know this is an old post but if you come accross this one as you pull your hair like I did also see https://www.dell.com/support/article/my/en/mydhs1/sln313031/sc-storage-customer-notification-driver-compatibility-with-front-end-sas-connectivity?lang=en

it proposes a workaround for the lsi_msgpt3 driver version requiring a parameter modification

Hello @tijsjansen in the link you provided they do not recommand to upgrade to 6.7, with a SAS scv2020, did you test it? I had planned to go from 6.0 to 6.7 next week as all th other compatibilities were ok but now i'm wondering, maybe i'll go with 6.5...

I've updated to lastest version and am having a hard time putting it to work.

ESXI host connects to the storage but I can't do much more than that. Connection keeps dropping all the time...

That is happening with ESXI 6.5.0, vCenter 6.7.

Tried two different HOSTS and problem persists.

Don't know what to do... Giving up is not an option, ever!

Please send us the output from

esxcli software vib list | grep -i lsi
esxcfg-scsidev -a

Question do you have set the Adv.  value for the lsi driver?

Regards,
Joerg

Hi there,

I think I've overcome this issue.

Step 1: Download DELL ESXI 6.7 Update 3;

Step 2: Double check the ESXI / (D)VSwitch / MTU between devices;

Then you're good to go.

Good luck.

Cheers.

Your bottom controller card is upside down and there for not even connected to your Storage Center.
