SCv2020 not letting me add a new volume

Hi

I am currently having an issue adding disks to an array. I have added 5 1.9TB SSDs to my array (these are the only SSDs in the array and the array is now full). I can see all 5 disks in the SSD group, one has been labelled a spare. When I try to enter a new volume I am getting an error stating I need a minimum of 6 disks; this is the same if I try to set up the volume as RAID 10, RAID 10-DM or RAID 5-5.

Any ideas as to why I am unable to set up a new volume?

Thanks in advance for any advice or help!

Hello dmcd123,

What is the SCOS version that you are running on your SCv2020?  In most cases when adding drives, you want to add drive 6 at a time.  That is the case no matter the raid level that you select.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Spoke with Dell support. Currently running SCOS 7.1.x, upgrading to 7.4.2 allows us to just use 5 disks. Also lots of other tips provided including the fact that VMWare 6.5 doesn't auto reclaim space if block size on volumes is greater than 512.

Tomorrow will upgrade the SCOS version and confirm it all works. Very impressed with Dell support so far!
