SC4020 - Battery issues
Hi,
I have a SC4020 that was put into storage 2 years ago in working condition. It was now required again so i booted it up and after a few attempts figured out what password had been used.
Since it hadn't been used for 2 years the battery warning was amber. I thought well.. it's been in storage for 2 years so i'll just leave it over night and see if it's happy in the morning.
It wasnt... So i fiddled with re-seating the batteries, swapping them between the controllers, but every time i re-seated it, it would shine green for like 20 seconds, but then started blinking amber again.
DSM says "Battery missing", like it's not even detecting it.
Since it's a lab unit, i went onto Ebay and found two reasonably priced batteries from a neighbouring country. 1 week later i now recieved said batteries today, but no dice, same issues :/
I plugged the batteries in, and now 8 hours later i have the same issue of "Battery not detected". It doesn't even read a voltage, or list the amount of days remaining.
I mean... these are second hand batteries (dell original), there's not guarantee that these are in any better working condition. So question is, is there any way to check if these batteries are detected, but with too low voltage, or something else is going on?
I saw that SCOS 6.6 had an issue with incorrectly stating battery wear, but this array is running 7.4
Appreciate any helps, tips or advice i can get. It's a nice piece of kit, don't want to throw it away :)

Hi,
Unfortunately, I'm unaware there is a like multimeter for battery voltage level detection in SCOS.

@DELL-Erman O Do you happen to know any serial-command that would reset and get it try re-detect the battery?

@kjohansson1 I couldn't find any specific battery commands. I checked this document, so take a look at it. Just brainstorming, if you have another SC4020 system running SCOS 7.4 or older, you might want to try swapping the batteries from that one. Just keep in mind that the cache will go down for a bit. After that, put the original batteries back in the SCOS 7.4 system. If that doesn't work, you might need to replace some hardware.

@DELL-Erman O Sadly i don't any other SC2020 or 4020 :/ They seem to use the same battery. The ebay seller has been kind enough to send another 2 batteries to test with. Using a multimeter the voltage on the old batteries where 0.17volts, while the replacements i purchase where 0.00v.
I think the issue is they're lithium-ion batteries, which if stored incorrectly, or drained by vampire drain in the unit are legendarily hard to get working again. Don't want to set fire to the office trying to zap them with a screwdriver battery :p
i'll check the docu =)

log on to the CLI command line.
issue the below command
shellaccess developer
cha acpi battinfo
you can check the battery charge information. if it is zero and not any increase, it is battery failure. If it was already 100%. Then you can reset the battery. Lastly if you reset the battery and then around 1 or 2 days, battery failed again. you must upgrade the SCOS to at least 6.7 above

Hi @tianchou
Sadly, all 4 batteries show the following information. Do you know if there's a doomsday timer on these and that it's simply not worth trying to purchase a second hand one? i found a saudi company selling "non oem" replicas of the battery that may actually have charge.
Any other command i could run to make it reconsider the battery state?
SCOS version is currently 7.4, so should be passed the bug that showed an incorrect charge.
