SC 2020 SAS + iSCSI
Hello,
i would like to know if it technicaly possible to map the volume to differents SAS and iSCSI host at the same time.
My SAS hosts are the ESX servers and i want, for lan free backup, map my Veeam server using iSCSI, because all SAS port are in use.
i've a REPL port of my SC 2020 not used for the moment.
And if it possible, need i a specail licence fot this fonction.
Regards
Muhamed

A SCv20x0 have no phys. space for offering 2 types of Frontends connectivity. So you have only SAS, FC or iSCSI but not 2 both time.
The Repl Port we use for Async. Replication over iSCSI.
About "Lan Free" backup. If you give access to the Volumes also to the backup server and not only the Hypervisors there is a potentially risk to override the luns when opening the windows storage managent. Even when automount is disabled a Admin can manually write unwanted new partition data into the Volumes.
Also the traffic from the SAN to the backup server is "RAW". Now the backupserver needs plenty of CPU power to perform the backup optimizations like detecting deleting blocks, Swapfile detections and compression and dedup.
Compare that to the 4 virtual proxies on your hosts which can than use HotAdd for fetching the data, optimize than and send it over the network to the backup repository.
Note: In a VMware Environemt you will put additional load the vcenter when using Lan Free mode.
