Problem with unlock.phy method and Dell SCV2020 Storage.
Hi everyone.
I have a Dell SCV2020 out of warranty. I managed to get the remote console working from the management port, but once I'm in the storage, I can't login with Admin.
After a reseach, I do know:
"Admin" (A with caps) is the administrator user.
"mmm" is the default pasword.
I can only enter with "__safemode__" and "StorageCenterSafeMode" but I don't know what can I do with this user.
My only hope is the USB with unlock.phy, but this didn't work for me (I tried 2 diferent USBs).
Here are the steps I followed:
- USB formatted to FAT32
- unlock.phy created with "unlock Admin" inside
- USB attached to scv2020 and failed attempt to login
What I'm doing wrong?
Thank you

Bruno_savalli,
To start, I would ensure that the USB recovery key is inserted into the leading controller of the SCv2020 chassis. This is critical, as the recovery process—including methods like
unlockPhy
—will only initialize correctly when the USB is detected by the active controller. If you're unsure which controller is leading, we recommend trying the USB in both controllers one at a time, allowing up to 30 seconds for detection. Here are a few additional considerations to help ensure successful initialization:
USB Format and Size
Use a small-capacity USB stick (preferably ≤4GB), formatted as FAT32. Larger or newer USB drives may not be recognized reliably by the SCOS environment.
Software Requirements
Ensure both the Dell Storage Manager Client and the Storage Manager Data Collector are installed. These components are required for full functionality and discovery of the SCv2020 system.
Firmware Compatibility
Confirm that the version of Dell Storage Manager matches the SCOS version running on the SCv2020. Mismatches can prevent proper initialization or communication with the system.
Recovery Documentation
If you're attempting to recover access due to a locked administrator account, Dell provides a documented recovery procedure that may be more reliable than using undocumented methods. Please refer to:
Tech Tip: Recovering a Locked Administrator Account in SCOS 6.5
If the issue persists after verifying the above steps, we recommend contacting Dell Support directly. While the
unlockPhy
method may be referenced in community discussions, it is not part of Dell’s documented or supported recovery procedures and further steps may need to be done directly with support.Let me know if this helps.

@DELL-Chris H Hello Chris. Thank you for your quick answer.
I'm going to try what you said. Just one question.
In order to discover the SCv2020 with Dell Storage Manager. Both management controller ports have to be connected at the same time? I started looking for a solution with the remote controller to see if I could make changes there because it has been impossible for me to initialize the storage with the Dell Storage Manager.
