Newly-bought SC4020 cannot create Disk Folder

Hi,guys,I have bought a new SC4020(600G 15K SAS 2.5*6) with a extension chassis-SC280(4T 7.2K NLSAS*84) and I have finished all the works with the console cable,two controllers restarted successfully.Then I logined the GUI,change the default password,but I was jammed in the"create disk folder".I could see every disks in the unassigned folder,but if I clicked "continue",nothing happened.And I found the classification of each disk was "unknown",is that the reason of not creating disk folder by the sort of disks?How can I resolve the problem,Thanks.

If the disk classification is unknown then the Storage Center Operating System (SCOS) does no recognize the disk model. I would recommend contacting Dell Support to work on upgrade your SCOS.

Hello wdpjylinyi,

What you need to do is to move the unmanaged disk to the managed disk folder. Once that is done then you can use the disks. Here is a link to the Administrator guide for your SC4020 & if you look on page 278 it explains that the drives need to be in a managed disk folder before you can use them. http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/dell-compellent-sc4020_Administrator%20Guide_en-us.pdf

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I cannot create disk folder now because the classification of my disks are all known. Do you know how can I update my SCOS at the sitution of the entire storage has not been configured completely?

Hello wdpjylinyi,

To update your SCOS you need to do a phone home from your SC4020 so that we can review the logs. Once we make sure that all is ok for the newest SCOS then we will release it so that you can download it via the web gui and install it. You will need to email NA_ENT_Storage_eSupport@Dell.com & they will need your controller serial# so that they can review your phone home logs & can release the latest SCOS to you.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
