New server cluster with different OS
Hi!
I have SC5020 and are about to add some new ESX host to it. We have a server cluster set up with vmware esxi 6.0 as the OS. Is there any issues with adding new hosts running vmware esxi 6.7? If I try to add them I get a messages that the new hosts are running a different OS and would I like to change it vmware esxi 6.0.
Can I add the new 6.7 hosts to the server cluster running 6.0, remove the old host and then change the OS of the group to 6.7?
Thanks for any feedback.
Best regards
Kim

Hello,
VMware's documentation says that prior to adding hosts to clusters, the hosts need to be running the same ESXi version and patch levels.

Iam pretty sure that @Kihen referrer to the Cluster object in the SC Host configuration rather than to a real vSphere HA Cluster. Also for a vSphere Cluster its NOT a requirement that all hosts need to be on the same version or patchlevel.
Iam surprised about the message because we often forget the OS setting on the Host Cluster object after upgrading the ESXi hosts to newer versions.
We never use the Wizard within the SC platform to add a Host and configure iSCSI for example. So for what is the setting good for? Tell the SC what kind of Host/OS is connected when it comes to MPIO/Failover?

Joerg

Yes I am refering to the SC Host Config as @Origin3k mentions.
We have added one host runnig esxi 6.7 to the cluster. It is marked as running 6.0 in the SC host config though.
Runs good as far as we can tell with limited testing.
