Mass wiping hard drives with compellent servers
At my job we have a pallet that came with two Compellent SC040s, one SC200, and twelve HB-1235s, and a bunch of SAS cables to connect them all together. The SC040s each came with two LSI9201-16e cards in them. We would need the drives to be passed through to a Linux-based operating system for us to wipe with our software. Is this possible with all of the equipment I listed? Or is this a waste of my time?
I have very limited knowledge on this sort of stuff so it's mostly guess work and google searches until it works, but I'm stuck and can't find anything that can help me .
And before someone suggests we just destroy the hard drives instead, we have certifications that require us to wipe the hard drives if our customers request it.
I appreciate any help.

Hello ZMaine,
Since you have never worked with a compellent system, you would want to try to wipe the drives with a server. Now in some cases most compellent drives are not seen by most OS’s when inserted into a server. The best way to ensure that the SC040 are wiped is to power them on & then run the wipe on the system. But as you stated you have never managed them so that would be difficult without any prior knowledge.

Hello ZMaine,
No, you can’t daisy chain the system and wipe all the drive at once. To wipe all the drives at once you will need to install the system and login to the SCOS and wipe the drives.

Thank you for your response.
The OS can read any drive just fine in the SC040. Right now my issue is getting an OS to read the drives within the HB-1235s through the SC040s HBA cards. I'm thinking I just don't know how to hook up the I/O modules on the HB-1235a correctly to the HBA cards in the SC040. I was hoping I could daisy chain them off the HBAs to wipe them all at once.
