How to Configure newly replaced disk as Spare in Compellent SCv2080

We recently replaced 2 faulted Disk in the Dell Compellent SCV array, Both disks are showing Green and Up Both of the disk sitting in the Unassigned Folder in Storage Tab... We can't find any other option to assign also we are not able to connect this array with SSH.

Kindly let me know how can we set the Disk as Spare instead of unmanaged. Also in this 2 Unassigned and unmanaged disk one is showing Swap Detected Yes and another one is Showing Swap Detected No

Depending on your SCOS version and if Distributed Spare was activated you cant specify disks as spares because the SCOS take a little space from a couple/all of disks to  create the needed amount of space capacity.

I cant remember if this was ever possible because in the early day every 21th disks add one disk as space. The rules have changed over the years.

You cant connect through SSH to SCOS. Use the serial.

So use the GUI and assign the Disk to the folder/pool of your choice.

Never pull out a disk from the system until you hit the evacuate and remove button in the GUI.

I found the answer.  Note depending upon how many "unmanaged" discs you have, the process is timely

Here's how: let's say you have 2 hard drives under "unmanaged" but you need to move them to the managed area.  If clicking manage unmanaged disc does now work, you need to

Remove all disc that are unmanaged.

After physically removing the disc(s) from the storage, you need to access the Compellant console and delete the disc.

Next, reinsert the disc - do this one at a time so insert 1 of the 2 hard drives.

Next, scan the hard drives at the Compellant console, the device should still show "unmanaged"

Next, click manage unmanaged disc and add the disc to the managed disc group

Next, move on to insert the 2nd disc and start the process again.

It worked for me!!
