If you remove entire VMs, single VMDKs/vDisks or just refferring to the -delta Snapshots files than the answer is yes. Take a look to https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2057513

If you remove files from inside the GustOS Filesystem than the anser is "it depends" and most likely not becaus your setup is maybe to old.. Its the combination of Windows Version, vHW, vDisk Type and so on.

Thanks

I am not talking about remove VMDK's or remove VM's.

My issue is about the "Allocated Space" in SC3020.

Let's say i have "Allocated Space" of 10TB in Raid5 or Raid10 tiers.

Let's say - i delete 2TB OS files, , or remove 2TB of SQL Server data.

Does the Allocated Space will be reused again by SC? Or actually 2TB will be kept forever? (And actually lost forever for being used again)?

When does this "Allocated Space" becomes available again for SC ?

Or - Lets say i MOVE  5TB files from one w2k16 to other w2k16? What will be the "Allocated Space" verdict here in the end of the process?

Hello chenchen,

Does the Allocated Space will be reused again by SC? Yes your SC will reuse the space again when it is needed.

When does this "Allocated Space" becomes available again for SC? The space will be available once data progression runs on your SC.

Or - Lets say i MOVE  5TB files from one w2k16 to other w2k16? What will be the "Allocated Space" verdict here in the end of the process? If the data is on the host & not on your SC, then you will not see any change on your SC.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Sam.

Please take a look on my system:

I can't understand why does the free space is being calculated as Available-Allocated.

Which leads me to the key question:

What is "Allocated Space" anyway? Once i see the Used Space , why doe's the Allocated Space "consume" my free space ?

I have read a lot and i could find the answer.
