Hello,
Most likely the unit is an SC040 and that would be the documentation to refer to. That having been said, if you can send me the serial number, I can check to confirm. Once we have that information, correctly identifying the documentation you need should be easier.

Hello @tonyv12,
Thanks for the information provided so far. In addition, please, I would like to ask you for something else: there is a way to find the service tag through the serial number for XYRATEX Storage products. Please, could you try to follow the steps below:
Run via CLI the command "jbod enclosure show" or via WebCST from JBOD_Manager> Enclosure> All
In the column / attribute "ElementSpecificString" copy the SN and let us know.
Thank you in advanced.
Regards.

Hi
I not sure how to do what you want. You want me to attach the Xyratex Compellent EB-2425 through a HBA to a LInux?Windows machine and run "jbod enclosure show" or WebCST .Where do I get this software .I'm not sure which of the SFF 8088 connectors to connect to(there are six ,three on each of the HB-SBB2-E601) as I don't have a manual. The only connectors on the Xyratex Compellent EB-2425 are six SFF 8088 and two round holes with spanner symbols next to them .Are the spanner connectors for rs232 ,is that where I can issue the commands.I don't have any connector which can connect to the supposed service port/rs232 or know where to get one? https://images.app.goo.gl/PprpcTWBXi9t1mSK8
Thanks,
Tony

Sorry I thought you had some kind of management access to the enclosure.
So I guess it is disconnected? Did you ever configured it somehow?
Sadly, XYRATEX is a legacy product and there is not much documentation available. It is mentioned in the End of Life Matrix: https://dell.to/3xXogHB but I cannot find the manual so far.
I will try to contact some colleagues to see if any of them have access to the manual of the product.
Regards.

Hi
Thanks .The only mention of XYRATEX in https://dell.to/3xXogHB I can find is for blanks which the sales were ended in 2014 my unit was manufactured in 2016.It's only 5 years old is it commonly the case with documentation that they are not available after 5 years?
Cheers,
Tony

I went ahead and tried those numbers you provided, but they didn't work. The serial number should be a 4 or 5 digit number located on the controller. With the age of the controller, I'd expect 4 digits to be more likely.
I'd expect we should be able to find the documentation on a unit that age. For example, our PowerEdge servers have documentation for the 9th generation systems available still and I'd expect I can probably find documentation for equipment even older.
My understanding is Xyratex was a Compellent manufacturer, so my thought process is that if we can identify this serial number, we should be able to use that to identify everything relevant to it. If you can't locate a 4-5 digit number on the controller, let me know.

Hello again @tonyv12,
As far as I could found, I think this Xyratex is a OEM from a SCv2000, SCv2020 or SC040 Compellent. An OEM product is a custom hardware configuration wich is branded and configured on demand: https://dell.to/3jlM9Vd
I can identify the Dell Part Number VJ02R as a SAS 6GB I/O Module HB-1235 HB-2425 for a STORAGE SC LEGACY ENCLOSURE (Release date is from May 2011).
Normally, the management is done through a Serial Interface (DB9 to 3.5mm Audio jack). I can't confirm if for you array is the same because I have not yet access to any documentation. Do you have any connection like this on the array?
Regards.

Hi
I have a round hole on the controller with a spanner symbol which could well be a 3.5mm serial port.https://images.app.goo.gl/PprpcTWBXi9t1mSK8
What is the pinout for that connector? I have come across two diff pinouts for this kind of serial, swapping the tip and the the ring for rs2323 pin 2 and 3 ,5 being the sleeve .Doing a quick search shows that an ebay seller (and others) thinks that it (VJ02R) is HB-SBB2-E601-COMP.I'm not sure I understand what you saying do you have documentation for the VJ02R?
Thanks,
Tony

Unfortunately, pinout information isn't something I'd be able to provide you. It isn't specified in the documentation we have access to.
Like Diego was saying, Xyratex was a legacy OEM and the equivalent model is likely a SCv2000, SCv2020 or SC40, but I can't be sure with what we have. I have a friend in Compellent support who confirmed that Compellent units manufactured in 2016 should have Dell service tags on them (excusing the SC40). The system is likely either a SC2xx series or SC4xx series.
Could you send some images of the front and back of the chassis? I'd like to make one more attempt at identifying the unit.

Well, I can say that is a legacy 6GB SAS 24 bay 2.5 inch enclosure, but the enclosures don't have documentation like you'd find with the SCv2000 (just as an example).
Was there a particular bit of configuration that you were having trouble with to need documentation? If you can share the end goal, we may be able to help get there, even without documentation.
