Dell SCv2000 with unmanaged disks
Hello,
I have a Dell SCv2000 with two unmanaged/unassigned disks. How can I add the disks to the raid?
I can't find the option to do so. In other posts I have seen that there is an option "Manage Unassigned Disks", but not in my case. I have updated SCOS to version 07.05.10, but the problem is still the same.

Hello,
Are you logged into DSM with full admin rights? Maybe your account is restricted. Are they Dell-certified drives for the SCv2000? Non-Dell drives can be problematic. Do they match the type/speed of other drives in the tier you want to add them to? Please take a look this article https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/storage-sc2020/scv2000scv2020dg-v3/adding-multiple-expansion-enclosures-to-a-storage-system-deployed-without-expansion-enclosures?guid=guid-2f5a2d41-822d-4149-a61c-a00aa5ebee12&lang=en-us and this thread SCv2000 Move drives to another enclosure / Unmanaged Disk | DELL Technologies
Hope that helps!

Hi Erman,
yes, I am logged in as admin. I am not sure what full admin rights means. I have checked the users - there is no setting to restrict the admin permissions.
The disks are Dell-certified drives from and exactly the same type as the other disks.
Besides the "Manage Unassigned Disks" option, I also miss the "Create Disk Folder" option. I have tried different DSM versions - but the result is always the same.
Can a factory reset help? I am aware that this will delete all data - that's ok.
Does this also delete the licences or do they remain in place?

I would verify the Scv2000 is up to date to start. As far as the factory reset, I am not certain if the license is lost in the procedure, so I would recommend saving the license file.

Hi Chris,
SCOS is updated to version 7.5.10.12. Is a specific SCOS or DSM version required to enable the "Manage Unassigned Disks" option? Or are other settings or dependencies necessary?
Regarding the licence, I have no possibility to export. I can only import the licence. Is there any other way to save the licence?

Hi,
Well, actually the license is backed up in your DDL https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-my/000131964/how-to-access-your-dell-digital-locker.
But based on your screenshot, the license is basic. Do you have those listed in Optional Licenses? https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/storage-sc2020/sc-7.4-rn/scv2000-series-features-and-licenses?guid=guid-77bd90a2-6451-40c4-bb04-bfbbe79d9c95&lang=en-us
The disk looks like they are in unassigned and unmanaged. There are a sets of command to include them to assigned and managed. Is this from another storage or originally in the storage? The commands are not publicly documented and I do not have the command on hand too. You will need to raise a case with support to have shell developer.

scv2000 will autoassign the new inserted disks to assign folder. So it has not menu to assign. I guess those disks have foreign state. It is better to check the disk by CLI.

Hi tianchou,
in my case, the disks are not assigned automatically. These are original disks from the same storage. The disks were removed using the "Release Disk" option. It is not really user friendly if you can release the disks and then there is no option to add them again - for whatever reason.
I have tried a few things via CLI. But without success. I assume that you can do it via the disk commands. But the commands are not really self-explanatory. You probably have to follow a specific order for the commands.... I didn't want to try any more to make it worse.

Here are the CLI commands:
