Dell SC4020 Expansion

Hello there. We have a couple of SC4020. One of the 4020 has two expansion shelves and the other unit has one expansion shelf. We want to combine both SC4020 into one. Is it possible to add three expansion shelves to the SC4020? I'm having a hard time finding a wiring diagram for 3 expansion bays for this.

Yes a SC4020 can hold up 3 and more expansion units. I forget the max. limit but it would be around 168 or 192 drives.

BUT..... a SC4020 is licensed on disk count and the base licensed covered only the first 48 disks. So when you hook up a additional JBOD to your existing SC you most likely exceed the licensed disk count.

How can I find out about the license count?  This unit is out of warranty.

If it's licensed for the first 48 disk than I should be good because the total number of disks will be 36 from the three expansion bays...right?

If I'm all set for license, does this connectivity look right?  compellent.JPG

Yes the cabling looks ok. But you can check page 96 from the SC4020 manual.

About disk licensing. Each SC40x0 comes with a 48 disk license which means enough for the 24 in the base and another 24 for a additional SC220(24x2.5) or 2xSC200(12x3.5").

My understanding was that you have a 4020 with already 2 JBODs which means this system have exacly 48 disks or more.
