DELL Compellent - SC4020 Queries

Hello All, I have following queries in Dell compellent Can someone help me here.

1) If a LUN is deleted from my Storage console [Storage Center], will the space will reflect in free space immediately or From VMware side we required to run any command to release the space ?

2) How to pull the Device ID for all LUNs in a report ?
3) Will the snapshot occupy the space from their Respective LUN ? if so do we have any reserved space for it ?
4) will there be any disrupt to LUN if  we change their Tier on live?
5) If a LUN is deleted in Storage console, can it be recovered ?
6) Can i add a same server (Server1) to two different cluster ? will the server able to see the LUNs from both the Cluster ?

Hello Freddy99,

  1. When you delete a lun data progression will need to run once before the space will be seen. Data progression everyday on a compellent system so in most case you will see it reflected the next day.
  2. You will not get the device id’s in any compellent reports that I know of.
  3. Snapshots will consume the space it needs for the size of the snapshot that is taken. The space is taken from the available free space that is on your SC4020.
  4. No there is no disruption as data progression is done on all tiers live every day.
  5. Yes, as long as you don’t empty the recycle bin in SCOS, you can recover the lun.
  6. if you do so then you will get data corruption.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
