Crazy Compression Numbers SC4020

Anyone using compression on their Compellent?  I just enabled for our 2 large file server volumes (~2 tb each) and am seeing some crazy numbers in Enterprise Manager.  It appears that it compressed almost 1.3-1.5 TB of data into ~50 GB.  If so, thats one<ADMIN NOTE: Profanity removed as per TOU>of a compression algorithm!

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding what is going on here?

For example:

Configured Space: 2 TB

Free Space: 477.52 GB

Total Disk Space (WHAT????): 142.16 GB

Actual Space: 1.62 TB

Active Space: 1.53 TB (1104.76%)

Replay Space: 90.45 GB (63.62%)

Savings vs RAID 10 (WHAT AGAIN?): 3.09 TB

On the other hand under Disk space saved through compression its showing ~5.72 GB.

Somewhere the statistics must be off... Right?

Yes, I see the same strange numbers after setting up the daily replay:

Active Space: 777,46GB
Actual Space on Disk: 130,42GB ??

Yeah, you think that's crazy?  Look at the numbers on my SC4020 running the 7.X OS. Yet if I open the Dell Enterprise Manager it reports a ratio of 2.11:1.

I'm running a demo of PerfectStorage 3.0 and it reports that all of my VMs are using 16.81 TB.  Yet, my SAN usage is 14.54 TB.

I'm not really impressed with Dell's compression/dedupe.  Even if the numbers were right, knowing my VMs are only using 16.81 TB means this array is only saving me 2.27 TB.

We are going to buy PerfectStorage and write zero's to all of the free space.  I'm hoping that makes a difference in efficiency.
