Compellent and ReFs
Hi community. I have a Compellent 5020, and I have a question about file system ReFS on Windows and behavior with storage.
In my company we have Veeam 9.5, Vcenter 6.7, ESXI 6.5 and Windows 2016, those Veeam repositories are file system ReFs.
If I free up space in the Windows file systems, in the storage I don't see any new space available. In VMWare everything is defined as thin disks.
From what I understand the unmap would not be working at ReFs level, despite having run a "defrag / L" and "Optimize-Volume" commands in Windows.
Can there be a problem with Compellent not supporting the use of file systems ReFs?
Thanks in advance.

If you read https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/refs/refs-overview you can see that trim/unmap on ReFS is only supported on storage spaces.
Also.... you store your backup on the SC? On which storage you run your VMs?

Hi Joerg. Thanks for your reply.
Yes, we use Compellent for Veeam backups. We have two Compellents, one for our VMs and another smaller storage for backups.
