Can we shrink RAID-10-DM allocated disk space?
Hi,
- We are using SC4020.
- We've run out of SSD tier, so we've changed the profile of volume which size is 10-TB from "Recommend" to our custom. Our custom profile use RAID-6 on both tier SSD and HDD.
- The problem is the storage does not shrink the RAID-10-DM allocated space, so all our data is now replicate to HDD tier because of RAID-6 level in SSD tier has not enough free space.
- Can we shrink RAID-10-DM allocated space?
Thank you very much.

Hello duy.ipad,
you can’t shrink a raid 10 DM. You will need to create a new volume then copy the data to that volume and then destroy the old volume.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello duy.ipad,
When you change a volume profile type you will not see the change in space. To see the change in space, it is best to create a new volume and copy the data to that volume. Once the data is copied then destroy the old volume and then you will see the space that the old volume was using with that profile type.
You don’t have to destroy all volumes on your SC4020 unless you are planning on changing all profile types on all volumes.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

- Our storage currently has 5 volumes:
- Before change, all using "Recommend (all tier)" profile.
- Now, we move "Volume 1" from profile "Recommend (all tier)" to our custom profile which will only use RAID-6 on tier 1 for saving space.
- Must we destroy and re-create all volume on our storage?
- As we see from the storage status report, "Volume 1" has not used RAID-10-DM anymore.
Thank you for your response :)

Assuming you have data progression. Not comparing apples to apples here (I am using SC9000) but to combat Raid 10 DM SSD's filling up go with a more aggressive snapshot profile, for example every 1 hr, with 2 hr expiration. You can use this along with your regular snapshot profile. It will let you keep the recommended (All Tiers) profile and data progression will look after rotating that data out every hour.
