Backup of SCV3000 Storage settings

I looked in the manual and searched the GUI, but cannot find a way to export/backup the SCV3000 Storage Center settings.

I certainly must have used the wrong search terms, or is there really no way to backup the configuration?

Cheers,

Tobias

Hello Tobis,

There is not a way for you to backup the configuration of your SCv3000.  In a case where we would need to reload the configuration you would need to be on the phone with support and they can reload the configuration if needed.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello Sam,

thanks for clarifying this, but where would DELL support get the configuration from, if I don't back it up?

Is there an internal back-up solution that stores different states of the configuration data on the disks?

An external backup would also have the advantage of beeing able to reconfigure in case of a catastrophic failure, e.g. after an overvoltage event due to lightening. I'm aware that the data on the disks would be lost as well in such a case, but it would allow us to recover more quickly on new hardware.

Would the SupportAssist data contain all information needed to reconfigure the storage array? What about Passwords?

Sorry, a lot of questions, but the lack of backup possibility is really unexpected.

Hello Tobis,

When reloading a system, we will use your phone home/ support assist log and the internal log on your compellent system to restore it.  There is a Unix shell that only support has access to that we use when reinstalling a system.  In your example that you stated if you were to have a lighting strike and need new hardware you would need to call support so that the license can be transferred to your new system.

Do not explain me well, a factory reset was done, but the client wants to return to the previous configuration, can we call support? The SC8000 is no longer warranted

Hi,

If it is working fine you can do a factory reset yourself, no need to call in under warranty. Page 285 https://dell.to/2W5IQbm

You mean previous configuration? Not factory defaults? Well, if customer does not have any kind of configudation back up you cannot "return" to the previous configuration. You can call support of course, but if the Compellent is not under warranty. They will offer you a quote for support. There are also profesional services who can provide you configuration if you need.

Regards.
