What is "Unbound" raid type?

Hello,

I am new to EMC Clarion SAN storage and therefore spare me for my limited knowledge...

We have this system having storage on EMC Clarion (CX4-240). In disk status report (taken from the navisphere), I can see several disks having State and RAID Type as "Unbound". The user capacity for these disks is "0" and do not have any LUN ID assigned to them...

I want to know what exactly is meant by the term Unbound?

Are these disks usable in any way? Or there is a specific purpose for them?

unbound means they are not bound to any pools or raid groups, they are available to be used.

For a RAID Grouo: Unbound means that a RAID Group has been created, but that no LUNs have yet been bound on it.

For a Disk: They are not a part of any RAID Group or a Storage Pool and it is available for use.
