Web interface unavailable on AX4-5I

Hi,

Our current SAN is an AX4-5I, and in the past i've been able to get onto the web interface of Navisphere Express to create Virtual Disks and the like. However as of yesterday when i tried to access it via IP, i was not able to get to it.

I am able to ping it succesfully, the SAN is having no issues running, and all of our VMs that are on the SAN are up. But the web interface will not load.

I saw another thread here that said to restart the SPs one by one, but besides hitting the power button i can't think of a way of doing this. The sys admin before me did not setup the CLI for this SAN.

Is it possible that the IP address for the web interface has changed somehow? If so whats the easiest way to find it? I checked our DHCP leases, and i did not find it in that list.

Or is there any other solution out there that does not involve hard booting the SAN? This makes me worry about data loss and potential damage to VMs on that SAN if thats the only option.

Thanks for any advice,

Nick

You can use a serial cable to establish a PPP connection to its service console then access its setup page (should be http://192.168.1.1/setup) to view the current network settings.

How to connect to a Clariiion through PPP Connection

You can also try to restart its Management Server then to see if you can access the web console. Restarting the Management Server will not affect the host I/Os to the storage.

Please mark my answer as correct/helpful answer if it helps.

Cool thanks for the information. Booting up an old XP client now so i can get this going. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for clarifying that restarting the management server won't affect the IO, as we do have active VMs running on it now.

So i setup the PPP connection, but i am unable to authenticate. Would the username and password be the same as what i use for the web interface? Or is there a way to bypass the login information?

So i managed to get connected to the device via serial connection using clariion clariion! for username and password. Now it's not letting me connect to 192.168.1.1/setup

I pinged that IP while connected, and it's able to hit it. and my pc received an ip as well, so it looks like i should have no issues accessing it.

thoughts?

When you connect through the serial port using PPP and connection to 192,168.1.1, you should not be asked for a username/password. If you now use a browser and point to 192.168.1.1 are you able to get into Express?

I am having a similar issue:

  • Navisphere Express web interface not loading
  • Successful connection through serial port using PPP but still can't load webpage to 192.168.1.1. or http://192.168.1.1/setup.
  • I can ping 192.168.1.1
  • Nmap shows the following TCP ports open over serial connection: 5414,6389,13456,60020
  • Tried connecting to 192.168.1.1. using the navicli but it says, "Management server is not running"

Not sure what else to try besides hard powering the SAN off. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I don't think any other option left for you in AX4, when you are getting "Management Server is not running" message when you run any navicli command except rebooting the SP one at a time or doing a power cycle of the array.

So, my recommendation would be to reboot the array and then try accessing the array. It should allow you to login back and run navicli commands.

Let us know how it goes after rebooting of the array.....

Adding to what Glen said you should not be prompted for a username or password.

If it still does give the one you use and see if it lets you in.

Apart from all these I assume you do not have any I/O issue.

If you have then it would be something more than the navi services that would be causing this.

Rebbting an SP at a time could be tried which will restart the services as well.

Hope this helps.

Oh, yes. Please check physically to find for any hardware failures. The LEDs should help you.

Raj, thanks for the reply and help. I power cycled the array by doing a hard shutdown. Navisphere Express is now accessible. Thanks again for the help!
