Suggestion for drive expansion from windows side after creation of meta lun on storage side.

Hi All,

We have one windows server 2003 enterprise edition for oracle database. oracle installed on different drive from the OS partition. we allocated 500GB for oracle and now used size is almost 95%. 500GB drive is RAID 1/0 SAS LUN from EMC Clariion AX4-5F8 backend and it mounted to ESXi cluster. Now i created one more LUN 100GB size and expanded in 500GB existing LUN by "Concatenated" mode. Now i want to expand from windows side. what are the checklist need to verify before i expand? I planned to expand the same in night timings after full DB Backup.

Dynamox,

LUN presented as VMFS3 file system with 8MB block size. (8MB Block size supports upto 2TB-512 Bytes in VMFS3)

i don't remember if expanding VM storage on Win2k3 was an online process, but once storage is expanded at VM level (and i mean properties of the actual VM disk in vSphere client), you will use diskpart to extend the file system.

so now since you expanded capacity of VMFS LUN, you need to increase its capacity in vSphere and then increase capacity of the VM itself.
