storage group ESX upgrade
Getting ready to upgrade some VM ESX servers from 5.1 to 5.5
Want to ensure that I have these VM's offline to storage
Via Unisphere, you would move these from connected status?

if you are using fiber channel HBAs to connect your ESX hosts to your storage array, you are most likely using fiber channel switches (Cisco, Brocade, McData, Qlogic). Switch zoning is managed on the switch itself. I like to remove zones for the ESX host being upgraded, but you could also simply remove the host from the storage group (in Unisphere).

you mean ESX servers disconnected from array during ESX upgrade ? Put ESX server into maintenance mode and once all VMs are moved to other ESX servers, remove switch zones from zone config (don't delete the zones, simply de-activate them)

Thanks for the help. As you can tell, I’m new here, previous Storage engineer left company.
Someone else is performing this ESX upgrade and once they have these servers in maintenance mode
So in Unisphere, where do you de-activate these switch zones?
Thanks
