Software Write Error for a particular FC Disk

Hi,

We are running CX4-240 SAN Array.

When we run Storage System Verification Wizard from Unisphere Service Manager, we get a warning saying that "Software Error Reported".   When we look into those disks for that LUN, we find that one of them has "Number of Write Errors = 1".

Just would like to seek your advice whether there is any action we have to take at this moment ?  Besides, if the situtation (Disk) is getting worse, our understanding is that there will be a warning signal from Unisphere Manager.  Is it correct ?

Thanks

A soft write error is when the storage fails to write data to disk. Upon failure to write a chunk to a particular LBA it moves to the next block and tries again. This will continue until the drive either correctly writes the data or exceeds a preset threshold. If it does write the data each failed attempt is a Soft Write Error, if it fails altogether then you might receive Soft Media Error [Bad Block] or other Soft Media Errors or Uncorrectable Error notification.

Refer: https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-19914

Frequent Soft Write errors will result in reduced capacity and throughput which would further lead to either Proactive Hotsparing [FLARE Version dependent] or a Disk Failure.

In your case, I would suggest to check the SP Events and Check if you have any soft media errors, if not what is the exact alert recorded in the SP Events?

Proactive Disk Replacement won't do any harm if you are highly concerned.

If there is a serious problem with the disk, then you should see a different alert - these alerts (if serious) should generate an SR with EMC. Make sure your flare version is up-to-date.
