SAN Copy Enabler installation fails with USM

Hello EMC specialists,

I have installed a new VNX5300 on site, and this was completely successful.

But to migrate all data from the old AX4-5F system in place I need to install SANCopy.

I have got from EMC sales team the Enabler SANCopyOption-01.23.5.001-xpfree.ena to install it on the AX4 for push mode.

To do that, I use USM latest revision.

The AX4 system is functioning normally.

The Software Prepare for Installation wizard process works fine from beginning to the end.

Second Phase : Install software -  the wizard selects by default express installation, because

preparation is already done.

When I click next, I have the window Express Install information verification, and on this windows I have the hourglass, and this is during still more 20 minutes.

USM is not hung, I can go previous with the button, and next again to this window.

I have done a Restart Management Server on both SPs, without success.

The AX4 system is still in production, until all data will be transferred to the VNX5300

Do you have an idea to help me on this problem ?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards.

Can you see anything in the AX4 SP event logs?

Have you tried skipping step 1 and just going straight for the Install Software step2 with a custom install? Maybe that will give you different errors that get you a bit further

If it is possibile that CIMOM is not functioning properly so USM is unable to gather the information.

Could you try below steps:

- Restart Management Server

This procedure  must be performed on both Storage Processors to be effective!

  1. Open a new browser window.
  2. Type in the address bar:

    http: // xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/setup

Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the Storage Processor (SP).
  3. When the screen has loaded, type in the Username and Password used to access Navisphere User Interface (UI).
  4. Once logged in, click the "Restart Management Server" button.
  5. Once the page has loaded, click the "Yes" option, and then click "Submit."

- Try to install the enabler.

If it still doesn't work out you might need to reboot the 1 SP at a time and perform the activity if you have already tried with different USM installed workstation!

Did they send it by email by any chance? It is possible that antivirus on email servers can strip out part of the content of the enabler which then causes the enabler to fail

Hi,

Let me know and confirm name of the enabler (SANCopyEnabler-01.01.5.002-xpfree.ena) that you have received.

Thanks

Hello Madhusudan,

I come back after a long time on this discussion.

I have opened a ticket with EMC Support, and Jon KLAUS had the good answer.

I have directly run the install step, without the preparation phase, and it was successful.

But I have learned with this difficulty that SAN Copy enablers are not the same for AX4 systems :

For Clariion and VNX systems : SANCopyEnabler-01.01.5.002-xpfree.ena

For AX4 systems : SANCopyOption-01.23.5.001-xpfree.ena

Thank you for your help.

Best regards.
