Re-Use of Clariion Storage

Dear all,

Newbie here. Id just want to seek your advise, if I can re-use an old Clariion storage, with existing config (Storage Group, LUNs, etc.).

I want to scratch this box and use it for other purpose (FS storage).

          > Is it possible to reformat the whole storage box?

          > What will be the best practice if ever reformat is not feasible.

Thank you

You could just remove LUNs from Storage Groups/Pools then delete all the LUNs etc. You can then create them fresh.

The existing data is effectively gone.

if  you blitz the first 4 drives in DAE 0_0  you essentially have an expensive paperweight. Those drives contain the operating system that can only be re-installed by EMC/Authorized providers.

Hi Brett,

Is this the same as "reclaiming the LUNs"?

Apology for the late reply.

Thanks

  1. Step 1: Without Factory Reset

  1. Delete all storage group
  2. For deleting all storage groups > Select Each storage groups and remove LUNs and connected hosts from the storage groups  and apply.
  3. Then Delete storage groups one by one.
  4. Make Sure that All Storage Groups are deleted
  5. Select  All LUNs under Storage tab > LUNs  select all   > click delete.
  6. Delete All RAID Groups/ Storage Pools under the Storage TAB.
  7. For Deleting host entries..  Hosts > Host List > Storage System Connectivity Status .  From here you should select the list of WWPN or iSCSI iqn and deregister.
  8. If you wanted to change the management IP address of the array. System > Hardware > Expand SPs > Select SPA/SPB > Properties > Netwok Settings > change the IP

Step 2: Factory Reset

It depends on the context of that, as there's no real "reclaim" here. If by reclaim you mean return the capacity to the RAID GROUP / Pool, sure, deleting the LUNs will do that.

Is that what you mean ?

Hi Brett@S / RashidAdiyarambath

Apology for the late reply... Yes, reclaim if ever gaining disk space and retain the RAID config.

But if I want to scratch everything from nothing, as in total "re-format" of the whole storage, can I go with RashidAdiyarambath step 1 recommendation

Kindly confirm.

Thanks,
