Paths between CX4 and ESXi
I have a CX4, which had just 4Gb host-side ports. We recently added 8Gb host-side ports and a new pair of 8Gb switches.
I connected the new 8Gb switch ports and created zones on the new switch.
When I moved a set of host-ports from the 4Gb switch to the 8Gb switch, that's when things started going south.
I have created a zone on the 8Gb switch and added both the CX ports and the host-ports.
On the CX array, it showed (under connectivity status) that the host-ports on the 4Gb network were offline, and it showed the new 8Gb ports. They were the same WWN obviously, so I de-registered the 4Gb ports and registered the 8Gb ports. Thought everything would be fine.
On the ESXi side of the house, it shows the same HBA's as before, but under "paths", its not showing any of the luns which were previously mapped to the esxi host.
I tried using esxi rescan but couldn't get the luns to show-up.
I moved the physical ports back to the 4Gb switch, and am still stuck, as the paths are still missing.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?
The goal is to move the host HBA's over to the 8Gb switch, and still see the CX4 luns...
Oh, by the way, the CX array doesn't recognize the host as an esxi server, not sure why. Seems like a missing agent or somthing. Is that also easy to fix?

LUNZ means host can see the array. Did you follow the steps i provided above ?

When I moved the cables back to the 4Gb switch, the initial port configurations were recognized. In this case, the HBA with the trailing 50 is showing up as belonging to the esxi1 host.
However, the esxi server is not seeing the :50 HBA.
All I see is LUN-Z, but none of the other luns which are presented to both :50 and :52
Rescans have not helped. I still have all my luns, but only through the :52 HBA.

you need to make sure to register the new WWN and also make sure they are "connected" to the storage group. If you go into storage group properties, Hosts, press CTRL+SHIFT+F12 and type messner when prompted for password. Now you should see a new option "Advanced". Here you will be able to select the new WWN.

>> It seems the initiator ending with CB:4D:50 is in management storage group.
>> Select the ESXi host in question and do right click to go to connectivity status option.
>> A small window will come up, where you will see 2 storage group. If you see that, click on reconnect option at the bottom.
>> Once above done, rescan the luns on ESX host side. It should show up the luns.
>> Hope it will fix the issue

if HBAs are the same and you are simply changing your switching, as long as you zone the same WWN to the same port on Clariioin..you won't need to change anything on Clariion side.

Yes, that did resolve the issue.
Now that I know I can get all the paths back, I want to move forward and put one of the host ports over on the 8Gb switch, and see if I can get it reconnected using the same approach.
