Is there any disk requirement for using MirrorView ?
Hi,
We are using CX4 Storage Array and consider using MirrorView for SAN Replication.
When we use MirrorView, do we need to use the same type of disk at both sites ? Like: Both are FC or can we use FC at the Primary Site and SATA at Remote Site ? Do they need to be the same size (like: 600GB at both sites) ?
If we need the same type of disk (Like FC), do they need to be the same speed (Like: Both are 15krpm) ?
Thanks

Hello Tony,
Thanks for contacting EMC Community.
MV/S and MV/A setup requires the below:
1- MirrorView ports cannot be shared with SANCopy ports (There are dedicated ports for MV that can be displayed from connectivity status)
2- MV/A or MV/S must be enabled on both array for the use of Async or Sync replication respectively.
3- Secondary LUN MUST be exactly of same size.
4- Secondary LUN does need to be of same Raid protection or same disk technology.
5- Bi-directional replication is fully supported.
6- Thin to thin and Thick to thin LUN replication is supported with FLARE R29/R30
7- Consistency groups is fully supported with the enablers for both MV/S and MV/A
So for an answer to your question, No need to create both LUNs on FC disks it can work with FC and SATA howeve,r you should consider the performance difference (SATA vs FC) if you want to promote your remote LUNs and use them in your DR site.
Hope that helps.

You can download this document from EMC Support site:
https://support.emc.com/docu32906_White_Paper:_MirrorView_Knowledgebook_30_-_33_-_A_Detailed_Review.pdf?language=en_US
It will give you a better understanding of how MV works and its best practices.
Hope that helps
