help!! After evicting bad windows 2003 node and zoning vnx luns, only new luns can be seen

Hello,

Never have seen this before. I am migrating luns from a clarion. The host is also  zoned to the ns. I checked and there were two different ips listed for the same host on each array, however, the host connectivity status is green for both ips on each array, same hbas.

I asked the windows admin to confirm the ip of the host and zoned it the vnx accordingly. I registered the hbas, created the storage group and luns and rescanned the windows host. I could see all drives in disk management, however, powerpath is only showing the new drives in the powerpath management console. I issue the powermt command and see the same thing. We did not reboot the good node after we evicted the bad node, however, things are working fine on the server I am attempting to migrate. I am afraid to re boot.

If anyone has come across this and has any advice, that would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Benita

Yes, the zones to the old array are still valid, the hbas show green on the old arrays Their definition in powerpath are gone. I don't see the old arrays under the storage arrays management tab.

i have not seen this before either but it's windows so i would not be surprised it lost its mind.  So it looks good in Disk Administrator ..how about if you run inq for windows ?

Capture.pp.PNG.pngOne thing I did was click on the properties of a disk I know is storage connected to the old clarion and hit properties. Under the hardware tab, it seems the system knows about the old drives cause I see DGC definitions.

appears the system can see them ok, and if you are not seeing 4 (or however many paths ) times as many LUNs as you expect to see in Disk Administrator ..that means PowerPath is still managing them.  Sounds like PowerPath reporting utility lost its marbles, i would schedule a maintenance window and bounce that box. This is the one you would be migrating using PPME ?

Thank you Dynamox!  I think we are going to reboot this afternoon. I migrated a windows 2003 cluster last week using PPME (including quorum), and it was fine. This one was a non healthy cluster and instead of fixing it, the windows team decided to evict the unhealthy node and have it run as a one node cluster. Seems to have created issues we did not anticipate!

So tired, up all night and hopefully can regroup to get this fixed today.

Thanks again!

Benita

Thanks so much Dynamox, I really appreciate it. I am emerging from a long nap, a pot of coffee and now I am ready for round two!
