what do you mean free space per storage group, as far as Clariion is concerned, everything that's presented to a storage group is in-use.

Example: It was allocated 500 GB, but the User is not using the whole area. I want to know he is using.

Understand. thought it would be possible, as it is possible in vmax.
example: symcfg list -TDEV -detail -sid 123 -sg SGGROUPTEST -gb

A LUN is mapped to a particular host which is resides in a storage group. Once, the LUN is is presented to a host and formatted with LVM it becomes a partition (For Eg. Winodws) or a mount point (Linux) so if you have assigned a 500 GB LUN to a particular host and if you want to know the free space you may check the Free Space available for that LUN. Moreover, if multiple LUNs are assigned to that host from different storage units then you might need to use a Host Based Utility or a script.

Yes, on VMAX if you are using TDEVs you can see extent allocation, not so much on VNX/Clariion. Maybe support has those tools, but as a customer I have not seen them. Any native OS tool can you give space utilization.

No Problem, happy to help! As far as Host based utilities are concerned they are not my stronghold yet. However, you may check the offerings provided by www.emc.com/it-management/smarts/index.htm#!offerings and check if it meets your requirement.

For CLARiiON/VNX, the only way is to get the free space information from hosts.
