Expanding Storage Pool (Virtual Provosioning) in EMC Clariion Cx4
Hi All,
In one of the Thin Pool, Subscribed % is showing 84% and another one 64%. How we can utilized maximum storage space or How we can increase the Subscribed % capacity?? If possible, kindly provide the answer based on Best Practice and give few Best Practices points. I am reading Clariion VP best practice.

With Thin Pools, the Subscribed % value shows the total amount of disk space that has been "allocated" to hosts for use. That is, if you have a 10TB Thin Pool that is 84% subscribed, 8.4TB of logical capacity has been allocated to clients. However, this doesn't report how much data has been written to the array - think of this as tracking the "reservations" for space.
If you have multiple Thin Pools, you may have different configurations between - different size or speed drives, different RAID configurations, etc. There's probably nothing wrong with having different utilization on each pool, especially if they're for different uses/purposes.
Let us know if that helps!

Another point to take into consideration. Each LUN in the Pool with also have a certain amount of overhead that is not user space but is metadata for the LUN. For each LUN there is a fixed overhead of 3GB and a variable of 3% of the LUN size. So a 100GB User LUN would actually subtract from the total space available in the Pool and additional 3GB plus 3% of 100GB (3BG), so a 100GB LUN would actually consume 106GB, 100 GB for user and 6GB for overhead.
In the attached document, see page 20 for a more complete description of the Best Practices.
