CX400 Storage Process Console and/or IP access
Hi,
I have a dual CX400 and do have console access via hyperterm (9600) to both SP's using the pw "SHIP_it", to wit I was able to load the DIAGNOSTICS MENU. However, neither that, nor the DB_key passwords allow me to do anything with the SERVICE LAN PORT configuraiton other than see a MAC address / duplex info, but I would like to be able to attach the SP service port to a hub so I can connect to it with NAVISPHERE on my laptop.
I have the PBU, and MIF files as well as Storage System Initialization Utility (Navisphere).
I have attempted to boot to the Utiltiy Partiton using both SP's and since the original vault drives are missing (I intend to reload the entire system from scratch once I have IP access to the SP's) -unfortunately there is no way to currently boot into any Utility Partition to go that route so I must find a field service way of doing this.
So, can anyone advise me on how to set the IP of the SP Lan service port? I have gone through all 30+ menu options and do not see any means to do so.
Kind regards!!!

Change the IP address on SP A:
http:// /setup/
The SP will reboot (may take up to five minutes).

Kevin,
You posted "current_IP",...-but what I'm trying to make clear is that there is no known current IP that I am aware of.
I attached the LAN port to a hub and connected my laptop (configured with 192.168.1.10/24) and tried to hit the 192.168.1.1/setup page -but there was no response.
My understanding is that the page you are referencing ONLY loads IF the vault drives already have the FLARE OS loaded on them and can boot beyond the POST...~but in this instance I am only able to load the DIAGNOSTICS MENU...-thus I need to SET THE IP FROM THERE and/or FIND SOME WAY TO SOURCE (tftp/ftp) the PBU/MIF files onto the array (format/reload first 5 vault drives).
Are you saying that I am doing something worng? Please explain...-as it stands the array just reboots and reboots...-it never actually laods anything from the vault drives, which is why they all need reloaded...-thats' why I'm trying to find a way to connect to the array through dianostics menu...right now, the only this the LAN SERVICE PORT selection allows (with SHPI_it PW) is to see the MAC info..there is no set IP option that I can find...~please explain if you know!!
Sincere Thank You in advance!

There is no Service LAN port on CX400.
The "Service LAN port" we're talking about, is only available on CX3/CX4/VNX. Please refer to https://community.emc.com/thread/182428 and https://community.emc.com/thread/188952 for the details.
Assuming the "LAN SERVICE PORT" you mentioned is "Management LAN port". You can refer to my previous post to get the IP address of it: https://community.emc.com/thread/188436
1.. Establish the PPP connection to its console port (require a RS232 cable)
Please refer to the article: How to connect to a Clariiion through PPP Connection.
If you are using Windows 7 laptop, please also refer to the thread: https://community.emc.com/thread/128122
Then point your browser to http://192.168.1.1/setup, you can get its network information:
2.. Use Unisphere Storage System Initialization Utility or Navisphere Initialization Utility
You can search and download the tools on support.emc.com. Ensure that SP are connected to Network, using the installed Utility from the laptop, try discovering the Array if you are able to view Array. It finds the array via MAC address discovery. Also ensure Laptop is connected to the same subnet where you Array is connected.
P.S. If you forget the admin password either, just refer to the thread: https://community.emc.com/thread/109402
Please mark my answer as correct/helpful answer if it helps. Thanks,

The process you are attempting to use is a re-image of the vault drives using the POST setup and booting into the Utility Partition. But if the original Vault drives are missing, there is no Utility Partition to boot into. The only way that I know to fix this is to get new vault drives. On the CX arrays there was no part number that you could use to order replacement vault drives, the only way was to send the disks back to a EMC location that could image the disks.
You may need to speak with your local EMC office to see if this can still be done.

Glen,
It would seem to me that using partitioning software and writing the NDU file(s) back to the vault drive would suffice to get the Utility Partition operational ~but as you've noted it is not documented anywhere. I mean, seriously?!?!...-is this not the most ridiculous thing that EMC could have ever done was to leave their customers out in the cold like this??? I called them and they said "$5000 for a maintentance plan" ...they are out of their ever-living !@#$%^ minds!!! No way!! How are they going to like it when we engineers and financial-planners of large corporations tell EMC to go take a hike off a short pier?! Bet the change their tune after that.
In the meantime, if their is anyone on this board that has successfully completed this Vault Drive rebuild...I'd appreciate the knowledge share. Thank You (everyone).

On the old CX200/400/600 arrays there was no way to re-image the vault drives if the utility partition was damaged or missing, if something went wrong with the disks, the only solution that we had was to create new disks in the factory - the field would send in the faulted disks and someone in engineering would image the disks and send them back out. As far as I know, we never created a separate orderable part number for these older vault packs.

Glen,
Although I appreciate that consideration the fact remains that it is as simple as putting a drive -any drive- in place of anyone other drive at a time (of the first vault drives) on a running system and it will mirror the drives right out the gate based on raid settings. The idea that a formatting can only be performed in a factory is actually not true, there is a field process but it's just not documented for us customers for some unknown reason -unfortunately.
Thanks though!
