CX4-120 stuck at boot
Hello,
We have this cx4-120 SAN on our company which we recently powered off and stored away.
A recent project required data to be restored from the stored SAN because our last backup was corrupted so I began connecting and powering on the storage array. I properly connected the SPE to the batteries and one of two original DAE's. However when I turned on the system I could not connect to the last IP address or via the service micro db9 port using the serial to micro db9 cable, all ports seem to be dead, we checked via wireshark and no packets were coming out from them. Also microdb9 gets disconnected when verifying username and password in the PPP connection on windows 8.1.
When I check SPE status, CPU fault led for each SP gets stuck in blinking amber and according to the page 26 of the manual found here (http://corpusweb130.emc.com/upd_prod_CX4/UPDFinalPDF/en/CX4_Hardware_and_Operational_Overview-_Master_1424629.pdf) this indicates the system is running powerup tests, but apparently they never finish because this led never gets to blinking blue.
I have a few questions.
- How can I troubleshoot the SPE to verify if it has booted if neither PPP connection or LAN service works?
- When the system was connected on the datacenter it had 2 DAE's, however in this case I'm trying to boot up with only one, could this be the cause of the system not booting up? are all DAE's required for the system to operate?
- Is there any special configuration required for PPP connection in windows, when I dial in, I get disconnected after the last status is "verifying username and password" with error code 826.
Let me know if you need any specific information about the system,
Thank you

Hi,
It's better to engage emc support so that they can work with Field engineer to bring the array up. Support may require the hyperterm connection to the SPs to see what stopping it from booting up.
By the way, do you have any idea on at what rate the SP fault led is blinking? Also, status of hand symbol whether it's lit up or not.

All ports going bad at the same time sounds a bit weird, is it showing up for both the SP's.
Is there any chance of booting the array up with only one SP in it and check if you find the SP booting?
It could be the midplane that would be giving you the problem.
Lots of things to assume which is kinda not cool.

That should not make the SP to go unresponsive. It might lead us into drive/LUN related issue. However that causing both SPs to go unresponsive does not seem right as well.

Hyperterminal or Putty Settings for Serial Connection
The above link is what you have to follow. However I am not sure why it says anything about even verifying the username and password. Honestly don't know if that is a genuine error thrown by the Clariion ( which i think wot be the case as the array is down)

You said that originally you had two DAE's. Check to ensure that the DAE you do have has the Vault drives - the first five disks (from the left side of the DAE from the front) in the enclosure should have labels on the disks indicating that these are the OS Drives.
If these are not the Vault drives, the array will not boot.
