cx3-40c FLARE OE
A few days ago I bought on eBay these items for my home lab:
CX3-40C-DE (CK200075001120)
DE-CX-4PDAE (JWXCH102301910)
EMC Clariion 500GB Hard Drive Caddies / Interposer Board
SFP to HSSDC2 4Gb Fibre Channel Cable
QLOGIC 4GB FIBRE CHANNEL PCI-e HBA
Fiber Channel Cables
I need to study about Storage/arrays and my idea would be to implement my failover cluster with these devices.
I was checking out and I got the conclusion that I need to perform a new installation of FLARE OE in VAULT disks,
Could someone tell me exactly what I should do to restore the system in my CX3-40C, I just need a direction, a point of start, what should I check, how to get the FLARE OE? how to install?
as previously informed my idea would be to use these devices to study, I do not make money with my home lab ... only knowledge ...
Thank you in advance for your help

Let's go back to basics:
1. is your array correctly setup? Did you get a connection diagram with the parts?
2. do you know what the IP addresses are for the array? Each Storage Processor (you should have two - SPA and SPB). On each SP there is a connection for a LAN and for a serial port. The LAN is a 10/100 connection. You need to connection those ports to a 10/100 switch and each port on the switch should be set to auto/auto. The serial port is a service port (there are some threads on this forum that explain how to use the serial ports to log in).
3. of the disks that you got, you should have the first five disks (counting from the left) should have a label listing which OS disk is which - OS 0, OS 1, OS 2, OS 3, OS 4 - or something like that. If you do not have these disks, the array will not boot. This is where the serial port can be used to see if the SP is booting. The Boot process is three stages: BIOS, POST, Booting Array OS.
The Fault light on the SP blinks when booting up - the frequency of the blinks indicates the state of the boot process.
Stages:
1. once/4 seconds — BIOS activity.
2. once/second — POST activity.
3. four/second — booting.
Steady indicates fault
If the blinks stay in one stage, that indicates a problem in that stage. If the lights are blinking at the rate of one blink every four seconds, that means the BIOS activity has discovered an error and will not proceed to the next stage. If both fault lights on each SP are stuck in the same stage (BIOS), that may indicate a problem with the getting to the next stage (POST) where access to the Vault (or the OS) drives come into play. This may indicate a problem in the disks. and will probably require someone to troubleshoot the issue as you may have an issue with the Vault disks, or image on the vault disks.

SPA uses disks 0 for booting the array OS (disk 2 is a mirror of disk 0).
SPB uses disks 1 for booting the array OS (disk 3 is a mirror of disk 0).
You could power off the array, then remove all but the first disk (disk 0) in the SPE and disconnect any other DAE's (remember to label the DAE cables so that you get the cables back in the correct position) and remove SPB, then power on just SPA - if that boots, you will still get some faults as the other SP is removed and the disks are all removed except for disk 0, but at least you could see if the SP will boot. You could then try the same steps with SPB and its boot disk (disk 1) and see if SPB boots.

You can have Procedure Generator for your model for step by step details.

Thanks Rakesh,
Where can I download the Procedure generator, someone can send me by email?
After I get the Procedure Generator, will I need the FLARE OE to initialize the system? how can I have that?

The CLARiiON Procedure Generator has been replaced by SolVe Desktop, you can search and download it from support.emc.com or EMC Service Partner Web. You can use SolVe Desktop to generate the "re-image" (Recover boot image on...) guide:
You can download the FLARE OE from Service Partner Web as well. But only EMC employee and service partner can access that site. You might have to ask your account manager or local service providor for help.

Thanks Roger,
I think that is my main problem...I don't have access to the files on EMC web site, and I don't know how I can have that, I asked for few people to help me and I just wait they reply, I also send a e-mail to EMC but I'm not sure if they will provide me what I need, as I said that is just my home lab and I run that in my garage!
If somebody can help me please just contact me my biggest difficulty is being to get the necessary files to make the system work.
thanks

Do you have partner's ID ? Try with that one once and see if it works ? If you don't have one, can create by yourself...

Have you registered your system/site look at it :
"Support > Software Downloads and Licensing > Register Your Software Sites. If you have already registered your sites then you should be able to access your contract controlled software downloads as well as downloads for license key controlled software products."
This is the updated info as of 18th June, https://powerlink.emc.com/nsepn/webapps/btg548664833igtcuup4826/km/live1/en_US/Offering_Technical/Technical_Documentatio…

Try to follow the instructions which says Register your Clariion.....Put the serial number, you may have to wait for few hours cause my instant account creation did not give me full access to all resources at once.....don't know in your case....still you can try....

Hi Franklin,
The FLARE OE is available to ONLY Partners, Employees and other accounts with special access. That is the reason why, you are unable to download them. FLARE is an EMC trademarked Custom OS for EMC CLARiiON, you will not be able to download it with out proper Powerlink Access.

That is my problem Ankit, I have a device and I cant have the software to make it work properly, this storage is not a new storage and is already outdated a few years ago, I never thought it would be so hard to achieve this:
I think if I can have the FLARE OE 03.24.040.5.006 or 03.26.040.5.005 or 03.24.040.5.007 or later, I'm not sure if will work, but with that files I think will be a good start but at least with the files I can try...
Please if anyone has access to these files and can send me I would get very grateful, as I said I will use it in my home lab in my garage, I will not use for professional purposes ... in my home lab I do not make money, just knowledge and this was my goal when I bought these second hand devices.
I'll keep trying, a bit despondent but still trying
