CX3-40 disk firmware updates require stopping all I/O

We need to upgrade the disk firmware on our CX3 because of a disk firmware bug. Unfortunately this is disruptive and we need to stop all I/O. What happens to the LUNs during an upgrade? Do they go offline? We have a NetApp filer front ending the LUNs. Do we need to take the NetApp volumes offline?

When you perform the off-line disk firmware update, the disks are not accessible - you MUST disable all host access to the LUNs - turn off hosts or block in zoning. It's just like on a PC when you upgrade the disk firmware - the utility to update runs its own OS or self running boot program - you can't use your operating system when the disks are being upgraded this way.
