CX3-20 uncorrectable parity sector

Hi,

I have a problem with a Sun server (O.S 5.10) that connect via FC to our CX3-20.

In the last week we have noticed of errors:

event id: 0x953 uncorrectable parity secor

event id: 0x956 parity invalidated

event id: 0x957 uncorrectable sector

Those events were only for 3 disks that we have replaced them all but the system is keep complaining and drives need to be rebuild every now and again from the server side.

I'll appreciate  your thoughts and help,

Actually you should not replace the disks immediately, this could be a DU/DL (Data Unavailable/Data Loss) case, you'd better contact CLARiiON level 2 support for assistance.

Once you find the uncorrectable sectors, the recommended solution is trying to backup the data to another location to determine what files were affected (If this is not possible, or restoration of specific data files is not possible, a sequence of unbinding, rebinding, and restoring all data to the affected LUN(s) will be required.). You can refer to the KB "Interpreting uncorrectable data and parity errors on a CLARiiON or VNX array." https://support.emc.com/kb/23000 for the details. You can also find some information in KB "What is the definition of an uncorrectable error?" https://support.emc.com/kb/9117.

Hi thanks,

those errors were stopped once we have fully rebooted the server. apparently the server had a script that used lots of IOPS that might have caused it.

thanks.

FYI - is the array is reporting uncorrectable errors on a disk or raid group, those errors will not self-correct - they are marked on the disk as uncorrectable and the only way to remove the uncorrectable sectors is by unbinding/rebinding the disks in the raid group.

To check the array you need to run the getsniffer command from Naviseccli - check the Navisphere CLI manual for instructions. This will tell you if you still have uncorrectables on the disks in the raid groups that the disks were replaced in.

The setsniffer -bv (with some other siwtches) is used to run the background verify command to check a raid group for errors.
