Currenly unable to create customized planning or installation documentation

Hi,

As a newbie to configuring CLARiiON AX4-5F I'm trying to create the Customised Planning and Installation Documentation.

Having followed the Home > Support > CLARiiON Tools > CLARiiON AX Series... links on PowerLink and having completed the drop down questions as prompted, when I click to Create the Customised Document, the page does not send the document via email and if using the ctreate Favourites link, the link seems to stay permanantly at the Document Creation In Process stage.

For info I have tried with IE8, and Chrome several times with the same results.

I'm hoping someone can guide me through what I'm doing wrong and would appreciate any help please.

Best regards,

Steve

You can mark this thread as answered if this was what all you needed.

Thanks Again

Hi Anirudh,

Thanks for the response. What you suggest was my initial thought, however, I created a link in IE8 for the document yesterday and it is still showing as Document Generation in Process almost 15 hours later.... This was why I posted here. Initially I thought it may be cached pages in IE causing the issue, but this is not the case. In addition, I have still not recieved the email version of the PDF.

Regards,

Steve

Hi Knaphie,

You are doing it correctly, you may have to wait little longer, as it clearly says document generation in process and it will take sometime before it is available..

Thanks

You may also use this link and check again....http://www.emc.com/microsites/clariion-support/ax45-support.htm

Hi Madhu,

Thanks for the prompt response.

The link you offer is where I am trying to generate the document.

I'm looking to set up the CLARiiON as follows:

  • Fibre connected via a Brocade 200E switch
  • 2 Servers (Eventually with ESXi 5.0 (vSphere 5.0))
  • Dual controller on the CLARiiON

The prime reason for the document is for me to find out how to configure the CLARiiON (i.e. initialisation and creation the LUNs). I have licensing for NaviSphere Express.

In addition, have read two differing opinions on whether to create two LUNs (one for the CLARiiON to use and one for data) or one large LUN for the CLARiiON and data together. I would be interested to get opinions on which is the best practice set up.

Regards,

Steve

Ok so here your Question is : how to configure the CLARiiON (i.e. initialisation and creation the LUNs) and the right guide for you is : Navi admin guide which can be downloaded from :

http://powerlink.emc.com/km/live1/en_US/Offering_Technical/Technical_Documentation/300-003-511.pdf?mtcs=ZXZlbnRUeXBlPUttQ2xpY2tTZWFyY2hSZXN1bHRzRXZlbnQsZG9jdW1lbnRJZD0wOTAxNDA2NjgwMzU0ZThiLGRhdGFTb3VyY2U9RENUTV9lbl9VU18w

This is a Navisphere Manager admin guide but the creation of the luns and the Storage group in both(Manager and Express) are same.

Also you can navigate to express self help : http://powerlink.emc.com/public/AX4/en_US/faqs/AX4-5_FAQs.htm

Last Question : May i know that why do you need a lun for Clariion?

One large lun for Data is sufficient till the time you dont exceed the usage for creating next.

Hi Rupal,

Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid your first link shows me an Access Violation. Perhaps my account is not compatible. Can you suggest a route for me to see the document please?

The second Link looks very useful, thanks, but it doesn't show me how to create the LUNs (unless I'm missing something).

Regarding the LUN for CLARiiON, I was under the impression that the CLARiiON required a "workspace" area (LUN) for Snaphots etc. Is this assumption incorrect?

Steve

For the navi admin guide In powerlink navigate to :

Home > Support > Technical Documentation and Advisories > Software ~ J-O ~ Documentation > Navisphere Management Suite > Maintenance/Administration

The 2nd question : All the applications running on a clariion will occupy the space depending on its type, as the snapshots take the space from the RLP which the user has to create so no need for any extra space/lun for CLARiiON .

separately....Once you go through the basics of configuration you will come to know it in a much beter way

Thanks

Hi Rupal,

Once again many thanks for your ongoing assistance. It is very much appreciated.

Given your guidance, as I thought, my EMC PowerLink account seems to be only a basic account with the CLARiiON registered. As such my experience is quite limited. In my copy of the Support Link, I do not have the Technical Documentation and Advisories section. If I try to go directly to any pages/links in your list, I see Access Violation.

That said, I have now managed to locate a copy of the "EMC Navisphere Manager Administrator's Guide (Revision A11)" via Google. Can you confirm that this copy is not too far behind your proposed revision please?

This guide seems ideal for my needs.

2nd question. Once again thanks for your clarification. I'm now looking forwardto configuring this system.

Best regards,

Steve
