Creating Hotspare RGs
Hi All
I have a few concerns over creating Hotspare RGS
a) If we plan to use multiple disks, then is it required to create multiple RGs and adding each of the disks to seperate RGs or a single RGs with multiple disks added to them is enough?
b) After creating a RG as hot spare, is it required to create any LUN with hot spare RG? Because we can see the option with LUN to create as hot spare.
Sorry for these basic questions
Thanks in Advance

You will need to create a RAID group (of type Hot Spare) for each disk you have that is reserverd as a hot spare.
You can have one hot spare available for multiple RGs. It is recommended to create Hot spares from the largest size disk of a given interface type (e.g. a system with 1 x 450Gb 15K drive and 30 x 300Gb 15K drives should use the 450GB drive as a hotspare). EMC recommended ratio of hotspares to data drives is 1:30 (for FC) and 1:15 (SATA), this is recommended you can have more or less as per your requirement.

if i remember correctly, on CX3 and lower you had to create HS RG and then create a LUN, on CX4 + it's done automatically.

What is the model of your system ?
From CX4 series, you don't have to create/bind LUNs for Hot Spare RG (gets bound automatically). In older models, you have to bind a LUN for Hot Spare.
Also you have to create Hot Spare RAID Group with single disk.
