Clariion NS480 Unisphere Internal Error - Process Hung in an Initializing State
While attempting to create a pool on a Clariion NS480 we received a "Unisphere Internal Error" message, and the process hung-up in an "Initializing" state. Can someone please expalin the possible cause(s) and offer a solution?
Thanks
Don

PSDON,
Firstly, you should consider moving this (and all future questions) to the proper community for maximum visibility. Posts in the users' "Discussions" space don't get as much attention and questions can go unanswered. You can do so by selecting "Move discussion" in the upper-right (under ACTIONS) and for this question, the most relevant community would be:
All Places > Support Community > CLARiiON Support Forum
Sometimes the Management Service on each SP needs to be restarted (btw, it doesn't interrupt the existing configuration or anything already in production). I would personally first verify via CLI whether or not anything is either already created or maybe in process. The naviseccli command to list the pools (not traditional RAID Groups) is as follows:
naviseccli -h <SP A or B IP> storagepool -list
Scan the output to see if anything is returned related to what you had attempted. If the pool exists, review the "Status" field. If it shows as "OK", that suggests it successfully initialized after all, and therefore had been created. Any other status by now (3 days later), will probably need further review.
Again, begin your troubleshooting by restarting the (Unisphere) management service on each SP by performing the steps outlined in the following KB article:
emc158478: "How to restart Navisphere/Unisphere Management Server"
Just to mention it, there is also within the KB article a link to a video demonstrating the process. Then review in the GUI (may need to refresh and/or "Invalidate cache and refresh" if that option is available in the panel within Unisphere via the gear icon) and/or rerun the naviseccli command to see where you stand. Then try again in the GUI. You may want to also consider creating the pool via CLI instead. Review the "Command Line Interface Reference for Block" document available on support.emc.com for the full syntax of: "storagepool -create".
If it persists even after restarting the management service, then you should consider (if you haven't already), opening up a ticket with EMC support.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the response. After posting my question I eventually opened a case with EMC and was given the same advice which appears to have resolved the issue. It was my first attempt at using the forum and I’ve noted your advice on posting.
Thank You,
