Can't create a CX4 disk pool

When I try and create a disk pool, I get an error message.  "Cannot create Pool: The operation is not supported until the current software package is committed.  Commit the software and retry the operation. (0x712d8108)"   There are a few other log entries around the same time for the SPB:  "Failing Command: Create Object type 197889.   71 2d 81 08".   I'm not sure what the issue is here.  All my software is committed or rather the option to commit them are greyed out.  Any ideas?

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility.  Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right.  Then search for and select: "CLARiiON Support Forum".

Can I assume that you did in fact preform an upgrade to FLARE 30 recently?  Or, to the best of your knowledge is this the first time you attempted to modify or create any new objects since the last upgrade?

Can you also go into engineering mode within Unisphere and then the "Software" tab and confirm what shows as possibly "Commit Required"?  If nothing changes then you may be experiencing a known issue but requires engineering involvement via an SR.  Once open, ask them to check for the following:

emc256131: "Cannot perform LUN, RAID group or pool functions after an upgrade to Release 30."

The details of the KB article are not available to end-users.

We've been on 30 for a while.  Never used pools before on this system but I want easier management of the disks and to be able to use thin LUNs.  The system is not under maintenance so the forum is all I've got - or go back to RAID groups.  Also in engineering mode, the software tab does not show anything which could be commited.

make sure that the user account you're logging in with is the Admin account. Some accounts do not have privilege to execute the commit.

If that doesn't work, make sure that you have the most current CLI package for release 30 installed, then run the following command:

naviseccli -h IP_Address_SP ndu -list

The naviseccli ndu command with the -list function and no switches displays information about all installed software packages. The format looks like this:

Name of the software package: name

Revision of the software package: n.nn

Commit Required: yes or no or

already committed

Revert Possible: yes or no

Active State: yes or no

Is installation complete yes or no or not applicable.

Is this System Software: yes or no

For information on one package, use the -name switch. For a subset of package information, use one or more additional switches.

After listing installed driver packages, you can perform other ndu (non-disruptive upgrade) steps, such as ndu -commit or ndu -revert.

This is the output from a CX4:

Name of the software package:        FLARE-Operating-Environment

Revision of the software package:    04.30.000.5.524

Commit Required:                     NO  <----------------------------------  NO means this is committed

Revert Possible:                     NO

Active State:                        YES

Is installation completed:           YES

Is this System Software:             NO

Thanks for that suggestion.  I tried the CLI to check the software, and all of them show as commit NO, so I did not try running any other commands.  I'm not sure what else to check here.

Can you create a new, temp raid group and a new LUN? If you cannot that means the software is not committed. The CLI Guide for release 30 lists the NDU command that you can use to commit the software.

See page 225 of the attached CLI manual.
