Can I replace a failed vault drive with a unused SAN disk ?
Hi all,
Apologies for all the brackets, just trying to explain fully.
We have a cx3-40 here (not in warranty) and one of the vault drives have failed and is physically removed, thus write cache disabled effecting performance.
Can I replace/swap that failed drive with an unused drive (not part of any RAID group) that is already in the SAN or will it mess things up ?
Thanks in advance,
Thomas.

Hi Thomas,
Yes you can replace it with an unused drive as long as they are compatible :
- same technology (FC/SATA)
- same size or bigger
- same rotation speed (5.4 / 7.2 / 10 / 15k)
