fc0 should be configured to SPA and SPB, same for fc1. This is just for booting, you will have extra paths that will show up because of your zoning.

what type of server is it ? Many systems will not login unless you go into HBA BIOS, enable it and then rescan for targets.

Check the 'connectivity Status' and register the host (hba wwn) if not having agent installed on host.

If the zoning and the cabling is correct and the Host is Powered On, You should see the HBA Information in the Connectivity Status. If you do not see the HBA information in the connectivity Status, recheck the zoning/cabling. If you see the HBA PWWN in the Connectivity Status, Make sure the Failover Mode is 4 i.e. ALUA and Policy "Clariion Open" is selected and Array Commpath is Enabled.

this is a ucs blade server. I can see the wpn and its zoned in on the san switch. but going to connectivity status on navisphere does not show the wwpn. I tried refresh and nothing. The sever currently has no ip address.

you don't do that in UCS, you configure boot profile and assign it to your server

Was it working Boot from SAN Host? or Is this is a new host configured for Boot from SAN?

If it is new, it would be wise to verify the configuration.

Thumb rule to configure a host to boot from SAN, the server needs to have a boot LUN presented to it from the array, which requires that the WWN of the HBA(s) or CNA(s), or the iqn of an iSCSI host, be registered.

Once, its done, as Vipin V.K Correctly mentioned, Can you please check if the Server has EMC Navisphere Agent installed?

If there is no agent available for the Host Server OS in question, you would need to register the WWNs manually.

Various Host Connectivity Guides explains Boot from SAN procedure in detail. Moreover, The default setting for the HBA boot BIOS is typically disabled. This must be enabled on only one adapter per server in order to boot from SAN.

If still there are issues, please follow: Troubleshooting Configuration issues and OS installation issues in Boot from SAN environment. It should help you resolve the issue. Let us know how it goes!

looking at that screenshot it looks like the host is not registered, so unless you put the WWN in the storage group you don't have any storage presented to your ESX server. Are you sure you installed ESX on DGC device and not on internal drive ?

In UCS you need to look at your boot profile and make sure the LUN number matches HOstID of the LUN in your storage group. You also need to make sure you configure the WWN for each port you are zoned too.  Finally the boot order is correct. Here is an example of UCS blade connected to VMAX and booting from LUN 1.

As per the Screenshot attached by tdubb, in the connectivity status, please click on one path at a time and then click on Detail. If Failover mode is set to 0, change it to 4 i.e. ALUA. and arraycompath is enabled and policy selected is clariion Open.

Do you think it has to be at lun0 for ucs to boot?

I created a lun in navisphere (LUN 73)

but when i put that in ucsm as lun 73, it did not boot

but when i changed it to lun 0 it booted

LUN number is different from Host Id that gets assign to a LUN when you add it to the storage group. What you set in UCS is Host id

Hello Tdubb

You need to register all the 8 paths and make sure all the paths have failover Mode set to 4. You can also go to Engineering Mode by pressing Ctrl SHift  F12 and enter the password messner and go to storage group, click on connect hosts, click on Host on the right side, click on Advanced Tab at the bottom which should be now visible in Engineering Mode and make sure all the paths are checked.
