AX4-5F8 - Flare OS Disk Replacement

Hello,

I need to replace the Bus0 Enc0 Dsk2, the disk is part of Flare OS in AX4-5F8 (version 2.23.50.5.707).

After disk replacement without any special procedure (only take out the failed disk and insert the new disk). But after that the disk is showing "Misplaced" status.

0   0   2   2   0   7.2K RPM   1000 GB   939194   SATA  ATA-ST   9QJ84KYA   DG118032589   005048831   300J   Misplaced

I tried to replace the disk with two differents disk, usign a right model (checking the Disk Matrix document).

Customer has not installed the NST ("Navisphere Service Taskbar) to follow the Disk Replacement Wizard. My question is:

Q.- What is the right action plan to replace a Flare OS disk?

Q.- Is mandatory follow the disk replacement wizard using the NST?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Jorge

Any sugestions about the root cause of this issue?

What is the meaning of "misplaced" status?

I would suggest to open an SR and work with support.

Procedure for vault drive replacement is the same as any other drive.  Hope you haven't disturbed other drives.

On the AX4 or any other CLARiiON, when you replace one of the OS drives you can just remove the failed disk and insert the new disk. The flare triple mirror and the OS boot partition will rebuild to the new disk.

What was the original reason for replacing the disk - did it fail? Was the user space in use and did a hot spare engage?

Have you tried to insert the original disk to see what happens?

PS - you should upgrade the OS to the latest version - patch 711 as soon as you have this issue resolved.

Glen n Vipin are right. The FLARE didsk has got internal RAID system, it is triple mirrored. If no other disks in the FLARE set has got an issue, then you have the green signal to replace her.Is there any user data on VAULT SET??

If yes, take a backup ASAP.

It is not mandatory to use the NST for drive replacement but it is the recommended and preferred way.
