Hi,
Are the faulted drives 0_0_3 and 0_1_8 belong to same raid group?
Using which TLA part # drive, you replaced both the drives and after replacement both showing faulted or any specific drive is faulted?
As it's 2 drive fault, i will suggest you to open a Service Request with EMC Support team.

Rajendra

Hi,
Seeing the output, it seems 0_0_8 faulted and hotspare 0_1_2 kicked in for it.
Now, both 0_0_8 and 0_1_2 seems to be down.
As you mentioned, you replaced both the drives, but both still showing faulted (amber).
Could you please confirm the TLA Part Number of drives which you used for replacement? Generally it starts with 005xxxxx.
Also, as its 2 drive fault, i will still suggest to open a Service Request with EMC support team for better handling of the situation. Make sure you attached latest SP Collects to it while opening the SR.
Regards,
Rajendra

My fauted disc
I tryied this disc seagate light amber ligh in few seconds after spin
And this - this start and light fault after longer time about 15 seconds (I don't remember its hitachi)
I have 2 new disc Seagate ST 3300657SS 15K7 in new DELL serwer i try it i'v instaled VMWare only. Mayby must be new ?.
Someone know what serwer works with dos seatools (seagate tool for discs) to precision information abouth hdd health. I think must be without backplane and raid controler.

Hello Fux,
Could you please help us with the answer for these questions so the community can help you better?
Is this a production system?
The drive you tried to replace the faulted disk with, did it have data in it? (from some other server/storage). If it is so then the FLARE can reject the drive and can make it marked as a foreign drive since it has got metadata in them.
How many drives have the amber LED?
How many drives did you replace? Which location?
The make of the drive can be different, but the model should be a match. Please check the TLApart # to get that info.
If the drive on one particular slot is failing even after using a new known good drive then lets not replace the drive again and get with the slot issue.
The two drives you've mentioned, are they on the same RG/Pool?
How is the data doing? Is it alive and available?
Sorry for the long questionnaire, but it will help us understand your issue better.
Regards,
Sheron.

It's important that you find the official EMC part number of the disk - the failed one - it should start with 005xxxxxx or 005-xxx-xxx. The disks that EMC uses has a different format on the drive. Normal disks you purchase from a supplier are formatted as 512 byte sectors, the EMC disks are formatted as 520 byte sectors. Non-EMC disks will not work. I'm not sure where this part number is located, but it should be a sticker on the disk.
These are the part numbers for a 600GB 15K SAS disk - the minimum Flare version on the AX4 must be 02.23.050.5.703.
005048958
005049036
005050914
The EMC Model number is: AXSS15-600
glen
Edit: When you remove a disk, always mark the location (Enclosure and Slot) that the disk was in. If you have to put the disk back in, you have to put it in the same slot it came out of, otherwise you risk losing data.

You can't use disks from other vendors, they must be proper EMC sourced replacements that have proprietary firmware that is required for them to be recognized and used.

Hi,
As suggested earlier, open SR with emc support team to address drive issue and upgrading the flare code to latest which is Release 23 Patch 711.

Hi, Thanks for your interest.
Unfortunately, the opening of a service order is surely significant costs for which I can not afford at this time. This is one of the reasons for the standard form to try to solve the problem. The second reason is that I like to correct that my knowledge of various IT .
I bought this AX4-5 to learn and keeping virtual machines. Works perfectly although sometimes visible difference in the speed of the storage is connected via a controller standard Dell as H700 H800. It is probably a couple of years and it has no support nor guarantees, but for my purposes it is sufficient.
There is a probability that such additional disks will die. The new drives to the equipment are quite expensive, so I have to find a cheaper alternative to maintain the condition of the storage.
I must look for information about formating disks 512 / 520 byte sectors in this hardware is good idea . I search for machine to make station for disks tools like seatools for diagnose SAS disks . HP G5 with controler 200 is not good idea - doesn't work with dos Seatools or i must install windows and software for diagnose SAS disks.
Thaks for any help

I would suggest that you re-install the original disks back into the original slots that the disks were in. Once the original disks are installed, the one disks 0-8 will probably show faulted. It may be that disk 1-9 may also show a fault, but see if you can access the data on that virtual disk. Sometime putting a disk back in will cause it to start back up.

Are you using NaviExpress or full Navisphere on the array?
If using NaviExpress, there is a place where you update the Software. Use that to upgrade - you need to have the software on your PC when you do this.
