Nothing (RAM, CPU, etc.) is upgradeable, no.
It went end of life in 2021, so it hasn't received OS updates in about five years.

Is this an upgrade?
Typical full-Linux route (high level)
Open the case and remove the write‑protect screw on the motherboard (usually labeled “WP” or similar).
Enable Developer Mode (Esc+Refresh+Power, then Ctrl+D at the recovery screen).
From crosh/shell, run the MrChromebox firmware utility script and install a full UEFI/Coreboot ROM.
Boot from a USB stick with your chosen Linux ISO and install as on a normal PC, creating partitions on the internal SSD.
At least it keeps it outa landfill.
