2024 Dell Chromebook read-write protection bypass not working
Hi there!
We have the new 2024 Dell Chromebook 3120 (link here) for our school district.
Our team usually handles Chromebook repairs, and in the past, we’ve been able to enable to bypass the read-write protection on all models without any issues.
However, we’re having trouble with the 3120 model. We tried following the process we used successfully on the previous Chromebook 3110 model, even putting the device in developer mode and attempting to disable it manually in CROSH, but no luck so far.
Here’s the process we used for the 3110 model, which doesn’t seem to be working for the 3120.
Is there a new process we should follow for the 3120?
Thanks so much for any guidance you can offer!

You all are not alone. The last four refurbished motherboards for the 3120 that I have been sent had the same issue. Following the 3120 SHIM guide and putting in the write protect screw no longer is disabling write protect. This issue just started for me at the end of last year.

Hi
Perhaps this is something you have not tried?

Did you ever solve this issue? We just started using the 3120 and already have 4 that need system boards. We followed the documentation it came with and it will not get disable write protection. Called Dell and got nowhere so far.

I've had two 3120's that I've tried replacing the motherboards. The first one included the instructions and shim drive that didn't work. Putting the write protect screw in place never disabled Write Protect for either 3120. The second 3120 that I just did today didn't come with the shim or instructions.. I had to use a SuzyQ cable that I luckily had to disable Write Protect. The instructions for how to do that can be found on the mrchromebox.tech site that @ann_droid sent above. I hope Dell gets this straightened out or starts sending SuzyQ adapters/cables with board replacements 😄
